Mario Adventure: The Mystery of Newer Land [DEMO 2.1 is OUT]

Postby JohnWary007 » Tue Dec 18, 2018 9:40 am

Hello everyone. I present my first SMBX project here! Currently, I have around 14 ready-made phases, and I intend the final project to have between 50-55 phases.

Here are some images of the development of my phases and the map:

The levels look very promising... But I think you should put more sceneries in the world map. Looks a little bland.

Soon I will make more changes on the map, but for now I will focus on the phases.
I started this project about three months ago and managed to complete almost 14 phases in that time. If all goes well, in less than a week, new development images.

If you can, you could release a demo to show better what you've done.

Anyway, good luck!

Most of the screenshots contain interesting aesthetic but they also contain way more npcs and some bad npc placement, the world map looks uninteresting and there are some problems with the perspective.
Does the project have any story/plot?
Also what does "phase" mean in your project?

I am aware of the problems with perspective and the world map being currently uninteresting, but what do you consider bad placement of NPCs? In some cases I had to change several positions during the tests, but I would like you to give me an example of what looked bad in these pictures.

About the story: I'm planning it yet, I'll probably introduce it along with new photos of the project. But do not expect anything too surprising.

Phase is how levels are called here.

Bad npc placement means that the npcs are placed in unfair places and you barely give the player some breathing room to react to all of the npcs you have put in, the amount of npcs in the screenshots is a lot.

Well, I have tested the levels made so far and I can guarantee that they are all passable.

But I'll give an improvement on them, and test them again. After that put new pictures.

They are passable but are they fair to someone who is playing the levels for the first time? For you, it will be easy to get pass them but for others it will be annoying and hard.

If all goes well, until Saturday I release a demo so you can judge my progress better.

The levels look nice, though I'd agree the enemy placement will need some fixing. I wouldn't be one to describe them all too well the exact problems, least not till the demo is released. Also, which version of SMBX will you be using for your project? Hope you add that to your OP. Anyways, good luck on your project!

Cool. IF we do get the next version of SMBX2 anytime soon, will you upgrade to it? SMBX2 will, and does at the moment, have improvements over the legacy editor, so why use the old editor? I don't care that you're using the legacy editor, I'll still try out your episode, just wondering why.

I use the old editor because I have more experience with it, but when released new beta, I probably use it.

Hope the next beta comes out soon! I'd love to see this and many other episodes, including mine, using all the new features. Anyways, keep up the work.
