SMBX 2.0 Beta 3 can't save levels in editor

Postby Dr Notson » Wed Oct 24, 2018 4:49 pm

I'm probably doing something wrong somewhere but whenever I try and save a level in the editor it allows me to name it, and then choose a destination for it to be saved in. Whenever I hit save a pop up appears saying "File not found. Check the file name and try again." The file doesn't exist because it won't let me make it in the first place! :D any help would be greatly appreciated. I played around and made a few lvls for the 1.3.0.1 version which I could save.

Do you have file creation permissions in the folder you want to save to? Places on Windows like the Program Files folder require admin permissions for certain operations. Installing SMBX outside of such directories is recommended.
If you're still having trouble it would be helpful if you provided a recording of you reproducing the error.

I can't figure out how to post a recording but here is a picture of the popup when I try to save a level or world in the PGE. Hope this helps!

While I don't believe this would be the source of your problem, it appears your data older is outside of a folder for SMBX2. I would recommend you put all of your SMBX2 data into one folder so it is all in one place. I don't believe it is the solution to your saving issue (although if it is, then that would be great of course). Ignore this.

Absolutely nothing implies that. The save window is just too thin to show one folder further up. Read the path in the dialog message.

Well it is not in any programs folder where admin pemissions are required. Have you tried doing an internet search for your error?
After doing a search I found this, which may be a potential solution (though this assumes you are using Windows Defender based on the instructions):

Turn off Controlled Folder Access:

Select Start > Settings .
Choose Update & security > Windows Defender.
Select Open Windows Defender Security Center.
Select Virus & threat protection, and then choose Virus & threat protection settings.
Under Controlled folder access, turn it on or off.

Yeah, it's looks very weird, and it's Windows side, so, here was explained a way how to fix this. However, I gonna to notify you that Beta3-preincluded PGE Editor is VERY buggy (I mean the build of 2016'th year, you can see it in Help->About dialog), and I strongly recommend you to upgrade it. The manual "how to" is here: http://wohlsoft.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1977
