Please use the zip in the OP or Wohlstand's link he provided. I don't know for sure if the link you found is in fact the official installer, but even if it is you shouldn't use it for the reasons mentioned in the post that Wohlstand linked to.

You already made a topic that people have responded to. Please don't post the same question in multiple places

Spin jump is already available. Just configure the controls.
Ground Pound cannot be added. But it's possible in SMBX2.

On a x86 laptop I was using, the zip file didn't have any files in it. I redownloaded 2 times and the same result. Any way to fix this?
I checked with 7Zip if that helps.

Try the spliited variant: http://wohlsoft.ru/docs/SMBX_1.3.0.1/splitted/
It has been splitting into 50-MB pieces. I think, you just have a bad connection and it is reseting while downloading.

No, that isn't really necessary because they were always been SMB3 Switch Goombas, no matter which earler version was.
Just a quickie: How did you get the Steam usercard in your signature?!

Yes. In fact, there are 2 new versions.
SMBX 2.0 Beta 3
SMBX 1.4.4
Despite the name these are totally separate versions.
2.0 is an extension of the original SMBX, while 1.4.4 uses a new engine.

To clarify, 38A's engine (often referred to as SMBX 1.4.4) is not directly related to SMBX, it just shares a similar editor GUI. SMBX2 is the successor of the original SMBX engine and 1.3.0.1, building on 1.3.0.1's engine

What do you mean by still playing? Can you explain your question in more detail?
