Just for the sake of getting this out of the "levels" section...
Red Beetle Burrow
Gfx: 4/10
The graphics for this level were nice I guess, everything was more red than usual, but seeing another SMB3 Wood level, especially in a cave (why is this cave made out of wood...) just didn't do it for me.
Also the big red beetles (and after closer examination also the little red beetles) were kinda pale and didn't really fit into the level. Maybe recoloring them in a stronger shade of red would've helped.
Music: 5/10
The music in this level was okay, nothing too exciting, but still acceptable. The overworld track didn't really fit in my opinion, and I think even the SMB3 overworld theme would've fit better here.
The underground theme fit in good with the level, but was not THAT amazing.
NPCs: 7/10
The level had lots of beetles, para-beetles, red beetles, blue beetles, large beetles, small beetles and piranha plants.
I never figured out why the level is called Red Beetle Burrow but has almost exactly as much blue beetles in it.
As I already pointed out in the Gfx section, the red beetles were kinda pale and didn't fit in with the style of the level.
The level had a nice gimmick though: blocks (which were actually npcs, that's why I'm putting it here) that let other npcs through, but not the player.
The level used the gimmick in a good way, but I imagine there are more clever ways on how to use this.
Gameplay: 4/10
It was a nice level, but really large and really confusing. Most of the time I had no idea where I was going, and I found one of the 2... 3? stars and the exit purely by luck.
I imagine someone who has a really bad memory wandering through this cave for hours without finding the exit.
I really liked the gimmick (as already mentioned) and the "bonus" flying block that you get by collecting 8 coins in a small bonus room.
Over all this was a decent level, but nothing really exciting. 5/10, moved to "Average"
