This is what Pseudo told me a good half year back (in response to a report xd):
Folks are allowed to double post in their own project reports to show updates in their project's progress; this kind of double posting is permitted.
And of course project updates couldn't happen so quick to fall within the above mentioned "critical range".

We're getting technical here anyway. To answer your original point: The SMBX forums are everything else than exclusive in terms of setting up rules against spammy posting habits. You just don't find these on reddit etc. bc these forums lay low on rules in general (which can be a reason to avoid them), but many other forums, including some substantially larger than us, have these kind of rules.

I mean?? Bumping a topic is fine when you actually add something to the conversation, like noticing that a download link is broken when you wanted to download it, requesting someone who still has the content in question to reupload it. The real kicker with this example is people not bothering to read the post that bumped it and you end up with 15 posts pointing out that a download link is broken. It's less a rule of "don't post in a topic after two blue moons have passed" and more a rule of "please don't spam, especially in older topics which, through spam, would clutter up the front page for weeks without anything of substance added to its discussion".

Nobody said or implied it wasn't fine? Of course everyone would acknowledge a broken download link as a good reason for a bump.

The entire premise of the topic was "bumping is bad" and at no point in the discussion has anyone pointed out how the rule is actually just more specific spam prevention in general, which is why I made that post.

I would assume that everyone talking about bumping is aware to differ between legitimate and illegitimate bumps and they restricted the term "bump" only to the latter (which I would also feel like doing).

Could this get locked now? My question has been answered and this will probably end up causing mild arguments, thanks.

To just set some things straight: Reddit and other Social Media operate completely different from forums.

With Twitter, you only follow people you want to, meaning that bumping is pointless unless the person you want to see the bump is already following you. Additionally, replies to tweets are sorted by popularity, not newest. Double posting isn't really a thing on Twitter either since most people just make threads of multiple tweets instead.

Reddit is probably the social network most similar to forums, but threads are way more short-lived to begin with: Due to the default sorting method being through a combination of engagement and recency, most users won't see new threads the moment they are posted. Additionally, you can't 'bump' threads on reddit to begin with.
Double posting doesn't work for that same reason: Because posts are ordered by popularity, you run the risk of the two posts not being next to each other in the default order.

Lastly, the first post in this former thread was of course not an invitation to do the very things that it said weren't allowed, so please don't do that.

Yeah, but i can't find evidence of these rules applying on other forums like reddit, gamefaqs etc. Why are they SMBX "exclusive"? (I don't know if any other sites have these rules)
reddit is not a forum. Submission rank is determined by score versus time, not by most recent reply.

What happened to the WIP graphics thread? It appears to have gone into the pit of 100 pages and there seems to be no replacement. Should it be brought back?

Literally stickied in the Art Board forum where the other two were previously: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=19158

Oh. It's just the graphics forum rules still links to the WIP Graphics 2, and I thought it would be a topic well worth stickying, but I haven't found it yet.

Okay, that explains my confusion. I was expecting it to be in the GRAPHICS forum for WIP GRAPHICS, not the ART BOARD. Or at least in General. Seriously, why is it in art board? That makes literally no sense to me.

Graphics forum is for finished graphics that are released. Art Board more oriented towards unfinished graphics and art unrelated to SMBX or stuff that isn't delegated its own forum, like music

To address the board software as well as spam prevention: in mid-March the board software will be upgraded to phpBB 3.2. This will add native support for Emoji and reCAPTCHA 2.0, and I'll also be adding mobile optimization for the SMBX board style. We used to have reCAPTCHA 2.0 on the site but then at some point last year people stopped being able to register accounts, so I disabled it which may have been the reason why we've seen some of these spambots recently. Additionally, it looks like there's a "post flair" extension that can serve as a medals system.

If it wasn't working before, why would it now? Also, will phpBB 3.2. change the forums?

Because it wasn't included in the software itself before, I had to add it in (I think with an extension). The forums won't experience any significant changes, no.

Lucky guys, must have made a good influence on the community to gain mod rank (And ofcourse a lot of maturity was needed, so well done!). I wish you luck with this role, it isn't easy at times but stay with it!

Demoted mods aren't a big deal since only one of them wasn't incredibly inactive.
But promoting mods is a big deal. Good luck GhostHawk, Aristo and Pixel! May you be great moderators for this forum!
