How to switch tiles/npcs?

I don't know how to switch between tiles/NPCs to put down in the editor. Please help? Thanks in advance!

What version are you using? It'll be much easier to help you if we know, because different versions do it differently.

You gotta switch the tabs your using

As for placing Mario's spawn-point, you have to open up the level settings and select the option.
