"These circles are a strong kind of magic," Hilda says, struggling to breathe. "We need to be careful; I'm not sure it's safe to walk within them. Would someone mind firing an arrow within the circle as a test to see what'll happen to it? I don't know that I have the energy."

Khiana shrugged. "I won't shoot it at the house, I'll aim for the ground within the edge of the circle." She then pulls out an arrow and shoots in the direction she intended. All she can hope for is this isn't one of those reversal spells. That could be a problem for her and potentially the group.

Your arrow flies through the air and momentarily lodges itself into the sand. As the sand is disturbed, the circle around it shimmers for a brief moment, but nothing extraordinary happens beyond that, much to your dismay.

"Oh, whatever. It's nothing!" Robin declares, stepping forth. "I'm giving whoever's in there a hello." And with that, he marches on over to the door and knocks on it.

Hilda stood in silence for a moment as Khiana fired her arrow, ready to strike back if anyone tried to hurt her new allies. When it turned out to be safe, she followed Robin and waved the others to come with her.

"Ok, sure, this isn't some sort of instant-eradication spell, but I'd still be cautious - this circle has to serve some kind of purpose, after all."
Even so, he followed Hilda and Robin, hoping that he's just overthinking things.

After waiting several minutes, you receive no response, and even with knocking again, nothing happens.

Robin shrugs. "I don't want to be rude, if anyone's in there, but I'm going to just come in if it's unlocked!" He calls, promptly attempting to just open the door.

As you attempt to open the door, a gust of wind blows it open for you, and you can hear the sound of papers rustling around and falling to the floor. The remaining sunlight barely shines through any bits of the shack, leaving it a pitch black inside. You feel slightly uneasy staring into the darkness.

Khiana scoffed, "Well, this is too easy. Anyway, we're here to meet with someone who clearly knows we're here, it's best we don't keep him waiting," She said as she walked in first, taking the arrow she shot and sliding it back into her quiver. She had no idea what to expect, she was a bit worried herself, but hey, after this we could go to the mountains. Yeah, go to the mountains, that orc clan definitely has something she wants.
She stepped in and oh boy, it's dark. She pulled out a candle from her burglar's pack and lit it.

The light from the candle bounces off your face eerily, and does a poor job of lighting up the whole shack, but it's just enough light to cast a shadow of every object inside it onto the walls. Strewn about the entire shack, likely caused by the wind gust, are papers. Stacks of papers sit on top of a desk, while some papers have been nailed to the walls. Upon closer inspection of one of these layouts, it appears to be a detailed map of Selvera, hand-drawn and noting every area of interest within the vicinity of Fleetpoint, including the Blood Coast, an area marked "Stronghold" in the mountains, a black skull with "Danger" written along the Blood Coast, and what appears to be the sketching of an intricate temple far out in the ocean. Strangely, on this map, it fails to note the existence of Dorme and Blackgate, as well as the Shattered Strand.
The interior of the shack is relatively small, consisting of a single desk with a chair, a bed made of straw and rough leather, and an ornate rug that must have been imported from a far-off country. A fireplace also sits in the shack, but no wood is inside it, and its rather derelict appearance indicates that it has not been used in quite a long time.

Khiana was quite amazed. She walked over and heavy studied the map. She couldn't help but laugh a little, "Whoever owns or owned this shack is a total genius!"

"Hmmm... it seems the sage left here a long time ago. If this was ever his home in the first place, of course." Hilda says, noting the condition of the place. She steps over and takes a look at the map on the desk, realizing that her own hometown isn't mentioned at all. She points to the place on the map where Dorme is located. "That's strange. My hometown, Dorme, is right here. I wonder why it's not mentioned. Perhaps this map was made before the village was even founded? And it seems the same goes for Blackgate, where I first met all of you... This map was made by someone who is either out of touch or much older than any of us... or someone who's long dead, I suppose."
Hilda sees the "danger" mark on the Blood Coast and is spooked. She doesn't believe that staying her bodes well for her group and feels an instinctual need to protect everyone, and leave. "And look here... the Blood Coast is marked "Danger". I don't know what that means for us, but I think we should get out of here as soon as possible. I hate to admit it, but the longer we stay here, the more nervous I'm getting for everyone's safety. After all, the wards on the ground outside must've been meant to protect this place from something. Even... no, especially if there are some exotic things to be found within." She rolls up the map, places it in her backpack, and heads for the door. "Perhaps... we should check out the orc camp you mentioned earlier, Khiana."

With the sun completely set, the darkness of night looms over the beach, and the thick cloud layer prevents any moonlight from shining down, making sight nearly impossible for any normal folk, and more of a nuisance for those that can see through some of it. Surely, someone would get lost in this darkness without some proper form or sense of direction.

Before they would leave, Khiana takes a good look around, seeing anything that might strike her interest, looking at some of the papers and books. What's on the shelves, she thinks. (investigation check)

Result: 12+3.
Flipping through various papers and books, you come across a three-page report with a title that catches your eye: "Fleetpoint Uprising". Reading over the papers, there are detailed accounts of strange rituals taking place within the Church of Ansar, the lone church in Fleetpoint. The details include the kinds of robes worn during these rituals, and the activities that surface alongside them, as well as requiring "humanoid sacrifices". It mentions that the majority of the townsfolk remain silent, as they have had their tongues cut out as part of this ritual, but from what you understand, the ritual has no apparent purpose, at least not from an outside observer.
Sifting through another mess of papers, you come across one that looks like a hastily scrawled diagram, showing a floor plan with a trapdoor, obviously in the floor. The diagram indicating where the trapdoor leads has been unfinished in drawing, but from an educated guess, you can assume this diagram is that of the shack.

Khiana's heart sank. This is definitely something that she didn't want to find but was lucky that she did. On the flipside, there may be more to this shack than first glance.
"Guys, wait. I found something you really to know." As she passed the fleetpoint booklet around. "There also appears to be a diagram showing a trapdoor for this shack."

"What?" Hilda said, her mouth agape as she looked at the diagram. "Well... we did come here to find the sage. And I suspect that whatever that ward is protecting is down there." She looked at the carpet worriedly.
"Are you sure you're up for this? I think we need to be prepared for... danger," Hilda warned, recalling the description of the Blood Coast on the strange map.
