Roll20 Roleplay Character Discussion Thread

So, after some initial talks about how the play by post groups are going we agreed that some of us would like to spend the hours a week necessary to have some real Dungeons and Dragons, so I have volunteered to DM a roll20 session.

Current status: Taking sheets. Four confirmed. Will see if we can start this Sunday.

Here's some info for ya.

Q) I'M INTERESTED IN THIS.
A) Great. Post in this with what times you'll be available. Keep in mind you will need at least 2 hours of uninterrupted time to play. I'll contact you, ask what you want, give you the link, we'll be on our way.

Q) What's different from what we're doing now?
A) Instead of declaring our actions and waiting for the DM to resolve them, we will be doing nonstop roleplaying/rollplaying over the course of 2 hours. There'll also be more combat as we can quickly resolve rolls and actions. Most importantly, we'll be playing on Roll20, which has means to roll, keep track of your sheets, reference stuff, the works. The only downside is that you will have to devote a long block of time at once, and cannot miss a session. That said,

Q) You're DMing, right? So it'll be like the play by posts?
A) Ha, no. The way I DM and the way Dan DMs are gonna be different. For example, if you're interested, I would like you to post times when you're available, even if you can't make our current sessions. I also need you to make and send the sheet to me before I confirm you are in to play. Sheets guarantee citizenship, after all. I will stop taking sheets once we hit 6 players and possibly start at 4. First sheets, first served.

Q) Okay, uhh, can I get help?
A) Sure. I'm here, and Dan would probs help with your character creation as well. We'll help you flesh out a roleplaying character and figure out what you wanna be. However, for all mechanical information, you should just read. Go here: https://astranauta.github.io/5etools.html All your creation options are here, and everything on this site is allowed. (This shouldn't be taken for granted though.) When you ask us for help, we will send you to pages here. Learn this site, love this site, bond to this site.

Q) So, how do I start making a sheet?
A) First off, have an idea of what race and what class you want. Once you figure that out, message me and I will let you into the Roll20 session, where you will fill in your character sheet. I have elected to induce high chaos into my campaign, so you must roll your stats.You will need to head into the Roll20 chat and type "/roll 4d6dl1" 6 times to determine your stats. You may hit it big and get much higher than point buy, you might get gimped by the rolls. Either way, once you roll I will only allow adjustments if you are too gud or too bad. You cannot take back the stats you rolled.

Q) What are you not gonna allow?
A) Two things. One, I will not have a lot of tolerance for players who miss sessions, especially early on. If you can't make a session I might leave you behind ingame. Two, no evil characters. I do not want alignment tensions and it's difficult to play an Evil character right.

Q) When are we beginning?
A) Ideally, next sunday. If I don't get enough sheets though we'll be looking at the sunday after that, and so on. Sunday is decided, but what time isn't. Ask again later.

Q) I have a question that isn't on here.

Also if there really are still people just wanting to do Mario roleplay you know uhh, you don't need us to do that.

We are at FOUR CONFIRMED right now and we have the potential for 3 more at the moment.

Here's what I'm gonna do: I'm gonna keep taking requests to make roll20 sheets as usual, BUT, starting with this Sunday, I want you to get on #roleplay at the time you want to play, and wait for people to come on. Since we can't seem to really figure out a time, I'm gonna post one myself. The earliest I can do this is Noon Pacific Sunday, and I will be on and waiting for the party to gather all day.

What this means is that, unfortunately, some people might have already finished their sheets but they're going to be left behind for at least one session. I do feel sorry for doing this but I feel like "first come first served" is the best way to get this off the ground, and no one's gonna be playing if this never gets off the ground.

Furthermore, if you are concerned about party composition, we have very little healing. We're looking good for everything else, so, healplz
