If it wouldn't exist people would just play other games.
I know this was a very smart reply that you totally wanted to hear.

The whole reason Sonic was made was to compete with Mario, so Sonic would probably not even exist if Mario didn't.

What does playstation have to do with mario never existing? There aren't really nintendo games on it at all.

But the chain of events that were triggered by Super Mario Bros being released basically shaped the video game history past 1985.

I doubt that this all happened due SMB honestly, we would have the same types of consoles and stuff even without it ever exising.

Mario kind of helped sell NES consoles, and without that Nintendo probably wouldn't have been as successful, so they wouldn't have tried to make a Playstation with Sony that they eventually got kicked out of. If that didn't happen the Playstation probably wouldn't have existed, or at the very least it would have been different.

If Nintendo didn't exist, then there would be no NES.

If SMB didn't exist, then the video game crash would've never ended, thus keeping the oldschool companies who produced video game consoles bankrupt. As a result of this, probably wouldn't have video games.

I don't think this is true; while Super Mario Bros. was a major system mover, I believe the NES' marketing as a toy, and higher quality control (or at least the appearance thereof with the "Nintendo seal of quality") was ultimately what allowed it to sell in spite of the video game crash. Instead of marketing it as a tech product or computer and naming things accordingly, they sold the system with ROB and used goofy non-standard terminology such as "game pak" for cartridges and stuff. And it apparently worked out very well for them.

Even saying that the video game crash wouldn't have ended without Nintendo is absurd. This crash was almost entirely localized to the United States and caused for very trivial reasons. Video games coming back as something that lots of people do was practically inevitable. All Nintendo was arguably responsible for is putting dedicated video game systems, which were already becoming obsolete at that time, on life support. So maybe, if Nintendo hadn't come along, it could be that we would just be playing games on regular PCs, not computers designated (now arbitrarily) solely for the purpose of video games. Or it could be that arcade games would have become popular again. Who knows? But video games would absolutely have come back in one form or another.

Also the Giana Sisters Series. Giana Sisters is a rip off of Mario Universe.
By the way, SammyClassicSonicFan will have other interest.

There is no way of knowing really what would happen there is multiple factors that create multiple realitys
Worst case: The end of video games. Mario was one of the main things that ended the video game crash. Companys would rebrand or just shut down all together because they don't want to stay in a failing business somebody could try something new and fail miserablebly. On the bright side Japan is the number 1 source of playing cards, Another plus is the super Mario movie not existing.
Best case: Something like Zelda would save video games from the crash.

No thank you, i'd play Megaman X.
Also, here's the deal. If Mario Bros. Never existed, uhhh.... Here's what i think could happen.
-Super Mario Bros. 3 Would be the first game (because we're only removing SMB1)
-Super Mario Bros. 2 or USA will be the first game that actually are a retexture from Doki Doki Panic (unchanged)
-Super Mario World will be a hard work to Nintendo in developing it
-Mario will not be as successful on it.
-Pokemon will never shows Mario cameo that much
-Hyrule connection to Mushroom Kingdom Theory could still happened (it depends)
-Super Mario Bros.3 will be for beginners rather than for advanced players.
-Redigit would never make SMBX (maybe)
Maybe, that's all.

That's the interesting question.
One thing that is for sure is that Mario will still exist as he wasn't introduced in SMB.
