Delirium Boss Battle!

Postby BonzaiBean » Mon Jan 30, 2017 5:04 pm

Hello everone!
I love playing TBOI (The Binding of Isaac) thats why I made this boss fight. I'm very new at making pixel arts so the graphics can be look a bit weird to you. Please excuse my mistakes and tell me the bad parts about the boss fight. Without further ado lets talk about the boss first:

About Delirium (read this if you dont know anything about him):
Spoiler: show
Image Delirium is the final boss of Afterbirth+ DLC. The boss is about Isaac's insanity thats why its called "delirium". He is litterally every boss mixed up in a room. He shoots bullet-hell-tears at you and teleports like a duck.
About the Boss:
Spoiler: show
I made the boss look like a 1-up mushroom because Mario gets an extra life when he eats 1-up mush. I made the level look like an arena because I wanted it to look familiar with the original one.
I was going to recolor Wart too but then I said "Wart is already in Mario's mind/dreams. Why would I do that?" thats why I didnt add Bowser or any other Mario game bosses. After beating Delirium you find yourself in a giant chest and go out! (Isaac dies in the chest in the original one if you dont know)

To Resist Any Bugs:
Spoiler: show
Please do not move until the next section comes.

You need to work on the main body colour shading because otherwise that wart doesn't look appealing.

Well I know the level is bad but thats not a good review. If you hated it tell me why because I'm new at this and I want to be better at it.

You know very well that these kinds of posts aren't allowed. You seem to affirm that this level isn't good and if that's the case you've got to justify your judgment.

idk man that post seems about as fine to me as someone saying "there's cutoff in that screenshot". Just a regular ol' reaction. Nothing to bash on.

As for the boss itself... I'm impressed people still come up with new ways to make fighting Mother Brain a real pain in the ass, even in 2017. The first half of the fight, the chase sections, are not only unpredicatable (causing deaths if I move even a little bit after killing each white enemy), but also repetitive and not very engaging. The only thing that really shakes things up here is the Wart fight, which is just a regular old Wart who can be stunlocked with the Mushroom Block you get from the sparky. This is the part you get to play 50 times because you'll die within seconds if you don't have the tanooki suit. The onslaught of rinkas, hammer bro hammers and occasional blooper is far from what can be considered good design. There are a good number of kaizo levels that are fairer than this segment of the fight. I ended up cheating because the rinkas kept blocking my bombs and I was tired of replaying the first half over and over. It was simply not fun.
If you would've given the player a reliable way to attack and protect himself (hammer suit maybe) and expanded upon your mother brain arena segment to make it more fun (less enemy spam and more creative setups), I might've been engaged enough to try and finish this legitimately. As it stands, though, I didn't really have all that much non-ironic fun with this, sorry.

I changed mushroom block into bomb so it cant kill Wart in 5 second and I replaced the bomb generator with the hammer suit generator and deleted some "spammed" enemies.

"WHY" is not fine. He is in no way helping BonzaiBean realise what he did wrong, if he did do something wrong, nor it's allowed to make that kind of post.

There are many unhelpful posts which are glossed over. This one's just an easy target to pick on because it's short and isn't sugarcoated with compliments.

Even the general concept of <pointing out issue> <not pointing out solution>, while LOOKING nicer, helps the creator in no way, and is, in my opinion, just as unhelpful as Sanct's post here.
I'm just gonna go through screenshot thread 10 really quickly... So yeah. I don't see why this one should be bashed on in particular. I know the rules SAY that you should be constructive when posting, but when I can easily dig up unhelpful posts which don't get a warning from the moderators I'm beginning to wonder if they're even properly enforced. And don't get me wrong - I glossed over MANY posts which were compliments without elaboration, and in the past such posts were also scolded, but ONLY in the level forum. Is the Levels Forum a dark void where rules are enforced more harshly than anywhere else? Or rather, at all? If I went into the Projects forum I could expand the list above by a lot.

Now, I don't wanna leave this post as a "points out issue, gives no place where to start fixing" thing. That'd be unhelpful. So here's the two things that can be done to fix this inconsistency in enforcing the rules:
-stop claiming that constructive criticism is enforced, because it clearly isn't
-start enforcing constructive criticism properly, globally

I'd personally go for the former as it means less work than the other option and you can't force children to act maturely.

Enjl it's not about the post being unconstructive, it's about the post also being passive aggressive and contemptuous, and Intuition is doing a good job to make clear that he "can't".

This is not at all what Intuition said in his posts on this topic. His posts were focused around elaboration on his stance, not the loud nature of the exclamation.
Sanct's post is useless, yes, but drawing passive-aggressiveness and whatever noun fits "contemptuous" from that is jumping to conclusions on a matter no information is provided on. I agree with Intuition that the post should've been more elaborative, but, as I stated in my previous post, there are many more posts that need to which are just overlooked. I know that Sanct has a particular disliking towards the Delirium boss in the original game, so I know that Sanct's post isn't passive aggressive nor contemptuous, but rather a shoddily worded reaction.

Actually if I saw the same thing I would give the same reaction. But the problem is not about his reaction the problem is WHY did he react like this? I want to know why thats the only reason. (Example: Is Delirium's design worse than deviantart OCs? Or the level desing is bad? etc.)
