Nothing of value was lost.

Possibly. My ex-YouTube account suffered the same fate two years ago and I tried to get it back a few times, but problems crop up if you forget the answer to your security question and then you have to provide additional information to verify that you own the account. How would he be able to do that?

*Looks up "SmashDSPs" on the YouTube app of my family's smart TV*
Wow, thanks for opening my eyes to the truth about BrawlBRSTMs3's channel getting hacked! I'll go write the new channel's name with pen & paper so I won't forget.

PewDiePie says that once he reaches 50 million subscribers, he's closing his YouTube channel. He claims in his 10-minute video that YouTube is trying to kill his channel for family unfriendly content and click-baiting. But he also suggests that he's going to open a new channel.
By saying in advance that he's closing his account, I'm sure his audience is going to think of something to keep him relevant. It's even more likely that PewDiePie is planning something to remain popular.
By the way, I don't actually watch his videos, but I've known about his channel since the end of 2011.

He's basically making a new character because his current character is too OP.

If that is true I am guessing there will be plenty of YouTubers will be hit hard, and I can see how that could result in a change of who is the most popular.

PewDiePie is the biggest thing on Youtube, and Youtube themselves know it. I doubt he's going to close a channel with 50 million subs and besides, he clickbaits a lot (at least he admits it though lol).

no offense, but i don't really like pewdiepie, i agree that he posts inappropriate content (i didn't know about the clickbaiting, i don't notice it :P), i also think his channel is too OP, i dare you to refresh a single video without a new comment.

I can agree, I don't really like PewDiePie, but he does have some really funny videos. If he did close his channel though, I wouldn't be too bothered by that.

I don't know, if he does go and make a new channel, it'd probably get like 5 million subs before he even makes a video anyway.

They would resubscribe to him and he could get at least 10 million subscribers (just 20% of his "old" account's subscribers) in one week, and maybe 5 million in the first 48 hours. That would be unusual for a brand new account, and it is possible that afterwards he'd have as many subscribers or more compared to what he has now. Additionally, he revealed the problem with accounts being unsubscribed, though it is less likely to affect his new account unless YouTube staff do something about the increase.
Seems like PewDiePie is planning something...

That is why I treated it like a tutorial.

I googled this a little bit and the first resource (FAZ) said he would threaten the closing due to "too few audience, not even two million clicks". Seriously?
If this is true then the dude obviously isn't aware of the masses of Youtubers who can only DREAM of reaching the scale of a million, and he's not aware of the high rate of pure LUCK that promotes his success. I'm not affected by any of his business so I don't mind if he closes his account or not, but if he does, it really seems to come from an upsetting attitude.
