I use zsnes for SMW hacks and snes9x for common SNES games

Having both bsnes/Higan/Snes9X and ZSNES can be pretty useful since the former are better quality emulators overall, but ZSNES is the only one that can run many older Super Mario World romhacks since they weren't developed with accurate emulators in mind (since they didn't exist at the time).

I guess thanks to this thread, I can ask about certain programs. What's Effect Tool and Mario Editor? (i mean, i know mario editor is gonna be a level editor, but idk if it's for actual games/hacks or just a fan game with a custom engine... like smbx)

Mario Editor is basically a level editor made by Hello Fangaming where you can build levels using his (shitty) engine! Here's a link to it's page on MFGG: Link
I don't know about effect tool, but judging by the icon I'm assuming it has something to do with SMW hacks.
