Well, if you consider that there is a light source coming form somewhere, there will always be a brighter and a darker area.

Funny enough, an earlier sprite of him in the scratchboard images IS shaded!

Yeah, that looks better and more pleasing to the eye. Maybe if you just add another brighter shade of gray to the front of his face?

Hey, people aren't shitting on this game as much now with the new style!
Gameplay still needs some revamping

It's Vanta! I still need to finish this one though, it's mostly complete aside from his neck looking a little too tall and his Stand Eternal Flames missing.

This screenshot pretty much only exists to show the new HUD. I still need to re-redo the tiles (and make a background instead of just using a solid color).

The HUD mugshot is based on the Jojo's Bizzare Adventure fighting game mugshots.

August: New month, new stuff!

So, without further ado...

This is Sol... or Luna... I don't really have a name a name for her yet.
I'm debating wether her name will be sun based or moon based.

She's slightly shorter than the others, but that doesn't mean she can't pack as much of a punch! :D

I need to work just a little more on this sprite. She's missing a few markings, her tail, and her feet aren't dark-furred like her hands/paws.

Hey Weegee, it's been a while since we've met. Mind if I say something?

You seem to be improving and doing it only so you don't have any reality that's harmful to you shoved in your face. You should improve for your own game. I'm gonna put this lightly as I can...

Weegee, considering your screenshots and characters so far, nothing sticks out. You're probably way too early to show anything from this stage before you can show anything where its potential is more obvious. Let me explain what I mean.

You're pretty lazy in your design first of all, and I can't bother to look at any close detail of your characters due to your earlier drawings being very incompetent. Your writing of your characters seems shallow and linear, from what I can assume about their description because I've heard "horror" stories about your writing and I think that I feel that you're not that good at writing just yet. Sure you have a cliched thing about "having to make the living and the dead rest in peace once you get rid of the nightmare world" thing as cheesy as that sounds, but with these character descriptions like "eternal flames", I shouldn't take ANY of them lightly, even when I still do not understand, "eternal flames" nor the point of it. If you want people to care about your characters, why not make better characters? Or at least, rewrite them to be ACTUALLY characters, if they're not a "character" at all. Plus it's obvious that you lack creativity and imagination just like a bunch of people out there. Perhaps you're not that experienced enough for it, nor do you understand creativity and imagination enough to stand on your own, instead of relying on trying to be Mario and basing a HUD off of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage For The Future.

Creativity, is not something you just only use for a business/goal... It can be used any way, and anything you want. Trust me, it's a very useful, yet fun thing to use no matter how good or bad it sounds. You wanna imagine a thing? You can imagine it in so many ways. If you can't, then you cannot spell the word creativity any way you want, even if more than just the leaves. I'm pretty sure you don't have to think to be creative, or else you won't let it happen.

Since the problems with cartoony stuff being mixed with realism has been brought up... There's many ways to tackle this one. The only way I want to explain it now is like,

Cartoony = Lighthearted (Doesn't mean you can't make it manly)

Realism = Daaaark n edgy

I think that's just me stereotyping it.

Also, the sprites lack shading, and duller colors. Even the character sprites are TOO big in terms of size and possibly resolution. If you did not get any physics down, then you're too early to present your game. All of these makes the game look like some kind of amateur Sonic fan game you see, in terms of presentation. And you seem like you just can't actually record your game if there's something reaaaaaaallly shoddy that gets in the way of doing so. Whether it's just you not wanting to do it or you're actually out of luck to do anything to fix it won't change the fact that a lack of video cannot confirm people's observations about how your game goes.

I think you may be better fit for a story than a game (Which is why it's my opinion), and I feel that your plot may be more feminine, but don't stop trying to make a good game if you don't want to. At this point, I can't call it a game yet unless otherwise. You may want to put any kind of cameos, but if you're gonna stand on your own, do it. You don't have to be exactly Mario or so (Since I used to be that kind of person who used to care about trying to be something else just to be better than myself as long as that thing is better than me before I experienced the worst consequences alone. That's also why humility is important). I'm criticizing the game for you this time because I don't like stuff like this happening anywhere, and nobody would want stuff like THIS, even from someone like you, that's why this criticism should help you. I doubt you can speed up improvements fast enough to keep this thread alive. Maybe when you get more better than you already are, you can be good enough to present your stuff.
