Aliens

Postby aero » Sat Jun 25, 2016 8:47 pm

Are they out there, man?

I've been reading about Ancient Astronauts stuff (where the History channel aliens meme came from) and it's pretty interesting to think about. I think it's more likely than not that there's intelligent life out there.

Well duh. There are billions of planets out in the universe. There has to be like a thousand with life on it at this point.

It's the inevitable alien invasion that I'm worrying about. I need my brain, dammit!

I don't think we'll ever find anything as evolved as we are, likely nothing much more than foreign bacteria, which I suggest will in some form be found on Mars. There is of course the theory of higher dimensional life forms, but it's something we can't truly comprehend, so I'm not going to try to take one side or another to their existence

To broaden discussion: what are the chances that panspermia is responsible for life on earth?

Aliens are just a cover up, the LIZARDS are what you should be worried about! As you can see in this clearly not photoshoped photo, Obama is a lizard!

And so is Queen Elizabeth! Their gonna turn us into slaves and eat us like chickens!

Being serious, yes their is intelligent life out their. The universe is infinite. It's just such a rare coincidence that we can only dream of interacting with a new species.

I would say probably not, as I believe Earth was created to be special and is the only planet that has life on it. Of course, there could maybe be some bacteria or something we brought with us on the moon or Mars, but I'd imagine it originated on Earth.

I'm sure we're not the only planet with life. As stated before, there are billions or more planets out there, so I highly doubt we're the only planet with life.

There's no way there isn't life.

Just put this into perspective. We're one out of thousands of solar systems in the milky way alone. It's taken several decades for the Explorer probe to leave the solar system. Thousands more solar systems, some smaller, some bigger than ours. Plenty of light years between each solar system in our galactic neighborhood. Outside the solar system, an infinite amount of galaxies, many that our bigger than ours. Each one of those galaxies has several thousand, maybe tens or hundreds of thousands of solar systems in their respective galaxy. We are so fucking insignificant in the universe. The scenario our solar system went through was an extremely rare occurrence, but there's no way it doesn't happen at least once in each galaxy. If there are planets out there where they're so hot that water compacts into hot ice, planets where it rains glass... sideways. Planets that are made entirely of diamond - in our own galaxy! Everything is possible in this amazingly huge universe of ours.

Just throwing it out there that there was a planet discovered that can sustain life just like earth. So chances are there could very well be aliens (or maybe even more humans) living in that planet.

Oh, there are certainly other planets with intelligent life in the universe, and there are very likely civilizations that are far more advanced than Earth.

What about Mars? Is there life on Mars? Water was found so there might be.

That's what I suggested above. I definitely think there's a very good chance. Great song too lol

I don't find it too out there to think that there's life in other planets, but we can't really be sure. But if there are aliens, I don't think we'll ever interact with them... not to mention it's not really worth it to travel to another planet unless you don't mind being in a whole different time period when you're back (with the time dilation effect and all).

SnifitGuy wrote:I personally think that the chances of finding alien life (not just bacteria, but multi-cellular organisms) are the same as not finding alien life. The universe is a large place, and yes there is the whole "there are billions of planets out there, one must contain life" argument, but at the same time, we do not know what the probability is of a planet containing life. Heck, it could be 1/1000000000, 1/1000000000000, or even 7/129127831. Also, there are virtually infinite different combinations of planet types, distances from their stars, the size of the star, etc., meaning that the probability of finding life on other planets is exceedingly low (provided that Earth's conditions are the only conditions that allow life to grow). At the same time, who are we to judge what is living? There could be "life" on other planets that are adapted to different conditions, life that does not need oxygen or water to live (if that was the case, however, then wouldn't we have found life on other planets by now?). The whole thing of life on other planets is so confusing because next to every bit of reasoning regarding it seems to counter other ideas regarding alien life.
Never tell me the odds! Lolz, that was actually a really good way to put it.

The likelihood of finding a planet like ours, hell even a solar system like ours is extremely unlikely, even in galactic scales.
