So the [img] tag doesn't support webm files (which Imgur now converts gifs to for some reason) and there's not much flexibility with the existing tags. I've asked before about webm support but I was told "there should be substantial demand for it" so here's this poll. This mod adds flexibility for webm, makes youtube linking more dynamic, and lets you embed streams among other things. Also has anyone had extreme lag when loading pages with heavy use of YouTube embdeds like in the Music Discussion Thread? If so please speak up, because that should be fixed too.

That's a mod, which means it's not for the current version of phpBB (which uses extensions).

I wasn't aware of that. Webm files, dynamic youtube links, and streams can still be covered with custom BBcodes alone - which is basically what the mod does in practice anyway.

Seems like it's 9 to nothing, so I guess a consensus was reached early on and there's a demand for this.

Although it would be useful I guess, I don't think it's necessary when you could always just post a direct link to it instead of embedding it

sometimes it's nice to see what you're about to get yourself into.
sometimes i like to see a preview that says "yes that's going to end up being a horse wearing a bikini" before i click the link and get redirected to a horse wearing a bikini.
it's the little stuff, yo.

That is a very valid point, however thumbnails can be deceiving. For example on YouTube, you can set your own custom thumbnails for videos you upload. The images you choose don't have to be anything to do with the video

I don't see why I shouldn't be able to embed webms just because [img] doesn't include it. It's just another image type, not anything special. Really if I can't embed it and you say that I should just post a link, then why have embedding for JPG, PNG, and other image files? It's dumb.

If it truly is "just another image type" then how hard is it to just convert it to a supported format? Would probably be less work than installing what you suggested since I doubt very many people use .webm anymore

You do know what a webm is right? Converting it to a gif cuts off the sound element of the file, and webm is increasingly popular on multimedia platforms.

Alright alright. Let's just hope HowToBasic isn't lurking around.

So what exactly IS compatible with this version of phpBB? I don't mean this in a rude or childish way.

It's 16 to 2 and not much change in the poll, so this extension should work and be easy enough to implement.

It still isn't your forum so it ultimately is not your decision whether or not to implement these features

Just from my end you seem a little too pushy and demanding of something that's really not necessary and you yourself don't really have the power to force it into action
