Can't use the level editor in SMBX 1.3.0.1 and 2.0 Beta with Windows 10

Postby ben » Sat Jun 04, 2016 5:09 pm

Today I have tried to use SMBX 1.3.0.1 and 2.0 Beta.

With the compatibility mode (Windows 7 and administrator rights) I could start the game and configure the control.

Nevertheless, using the editor was not possible. (This is important to me, because I would like to go on working with pleasure on my episode).

I use earlier the version 1.3.0.1 with Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit.

Because I wanted to upgrade on Windows 10, I found out here in this forum whether the game functions with this operating system.

This was confirmed to me.

Unfortunately, both versions on my PC with Windows 10 still did not function.

I do not know what I could do.

It would be very nice if somebody could help me, because I am very helpless. :(

Does the coin sound play multiple times at the start? And does it lag when jumping/turning around and stuff like that?
If so, I would say go to 2.0, but you stated in your title that you can't use it on both. Do you have a old computer with not very good specs?
Was just the PGE editor or SMBX editor lagging? Maybe you could post your computer specs so we can see if you have a good enough computer to run SMBX.

Just try to wait. People who had the same problem simply waited and their SMBX randomly started working fine.

The new editor starts correct and I can design my levels, but when I want to test a Level I get an error message.

With the old editor (Version 1.3.0.1 and 2.0) I get the loading screen. The coin blinks and freezes after a short time. The editor does not start.

Here are my PC specifications:

PGE Editor is a part of PGE Project:
http://wohlsoft.ru/PGE/

PGE Project - is a developing free and open-source, cross-platform and modern drop-in replacement of the SMBX Engine. PGE is designed as universal game engine, therefore it allows making absolutely any games of platform genre from scratch. But most of internal parts are keeps full backward compatibility with SMBX Engine to allow playing a lot of awesome levels and episodes made especially for old engine. While engine part in works, Editor is using as alternate and much more flexible and convenient editor than originally was in SMBX Engine. It has been used as main editor in the SMBX 2.0 based on LunaLUA-SMBX.

I'm preety sure testing in PGE is in beta or whatever, have you tried testing with smbx?
Open PGE, go to the testing area, have the smbx episode player or maybe the editor open, and test with smbx 1.3 I think that's what it's called.

To test SMBX levels in 1.3.0.1, leave the 1.3.0.1 editor open and press "Test in SMBX". Did you check if the level file is .lvl? If it is .lvlx, it is not compatible with 1.3.0.1. The "Test in SMBX" only works if opened through LunaLoader. If LunaLoader malfunctions, run vcredist.dll to install missing assets that are required in LunaLoader.
Try extracting the files through 7-Zip/WinZip if you get a "missing file" error.
