First off, I must say, it looks pretty good in the screenshot, but once I played, I felt increasingly underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad.
Design:
Ok, so the design isn't that bad, everything is spaced out really well. Powerups are spread across really well, but the coins *AHEM* I mean rings are spread out a little too thin, and I suggest you increase the amount. Nothing much to say about it. There's not much wrong with it, but it just feels... pretty good. You did your best to give off the labyrinth design, and you did a fine job.
7/10
Gameplay:
Now here's where things start to really fall apart. The level's gameplay and fun factor starts to fall apart after the first 20 seconds. The gimmick simply involves you hitting switches to open the doors three blocks ahead, which only chips off the boring block. The entire level consisted of about 2-3 different enemies, which you don't see very often: parakoopas, bloopers, and a couple roto discs. After a while, you even switch sprites on the Koopa and you started using SMB3 instead of SMB1. Add more enemies, and not just the number of enemies, but the variety of enemies. Next up, make the gimmick MORE EXCITING, at least make it a puzzle, not just a little effect.
3.5/10
Atmosphere:
Just like the gameplay factor, the atmosphere starts to stagger off after a while. That has got to be the most fitting music, if you're intentionally trying to make a boring level. Up the volume a little, find a remix that adds some tension, or something OTHER than what you had if you want to make something exciting. However, the level itself looks fantastic, and the tileset and generally visuals looked very good. The item blocks didn't really match everything else as they were 1x1 (I Suggest doubling their size so they'd at least stick out too), but that's just a minor thing as they aren't all over the place. I'm not sure what purpose the blue things were (I'm sure it must have been something with my lua) so they just kinda sat there, looking ugly as well. Other than a few nitpicks, the graphics and music do their best to improve a stale level.
6/10
16.5/30 which doing a little math goes to 5.5/10 which means it would go in Average if this gets approved.
Sorry, my review is about as inventive as this level. You need to make your levels more exciting and memorable.
