I mean you can change the colors with just Paint.NET. If you want to actually hack SMBX, then use PGE community's hacking tool for SMBX - LunaLua.

You don't really have to give credit to anyone if you are making your own hardcoded graphics. If you are using someone else's graphics, then give credit to the creator of those graphics.
