So yeah, in the level editor, whenever I test a level, it lags extremely bad anytime I jump, turn around, interact with a npc, etc.
I am running on a fairly good computer with windows 10.
Anyone know what might cause this?

Try and find any system processes that are using the most memory and kill them, unless they're needed by the computer.

I'm using %20 CPU right now, sometimes Antimalware Service Executable goes all the way up to %50 CPU in just that, but it isn't now.
It's been doing this for like a week now.

uh, you have the same problem that I.
so, if lag, just close and open again.
if lag again, close and open again.
if lag again, close and open 3 smbx.
if lag again, you know what to do~
here i have extremely lag in the test but I can feel a mouse lag in editor tho (mouse moviment aren't smooth)
i have a good VGA but i think i have this because CPU (Pentium 2x3.2ghz)
Have fun?

Wouldn't that just make the lag worse?

Technically, should rather get worse.
But in pratice you feel in the three the same lag as before, sometimes at least one run smooth, but i recomend open more than one only if smbx still does not run well after open three of four individually.
and rip SomeRandomGuy, he does not speak if it work or if he tried. high chances of his problem not be bypassed like mine.

hm, this isn't a solution, i don't know how solve this problem. but there's a way to bypass this.
here i just keep opening testing and closing the game. when the in-game cursor move smooth or the level test don't lag, go make your level.
EDIT: if you're crazy you can open multiples (like three) smbx, wait (go drink water) and test one by one. sometimes work.

Update your PC, that's what fixed it on my side.

Why R.I.P. SomeRandomGuy? I'm not dead.
I upgraded to SMBX 2.0 and that works.
