Guys, this has been said a bunch of times before, but I'm going to say it again: Please don't reply to blatant spam. This includes spam threads from both bots and users. Simply report the post and the staff will handle it.

Don't the messages get deleted anyway? What does it matter when the topics are pruned?

It's easier to delete threads when nobody has replied to them, since we can just click the delete button on the OP.

Also, it's better to not reply to spam because that may be what spammers want. I realize that's not the case for situations like the Korean spam, but as a general practice it's best to ignore spam and not give it any fuel (this is especially true with trolls).

The MCP let's you tick the boxes for each thread you want to delete, and deletes all replies. Are you guys (mods) going into threads one at a time and hitting the delete button on OPs?

I actually was in the past until I figured out that it could be done on the MCP. I did learn that before this though.

It's still simpler to just report the thread though.

I don't really see how that's the case when they're all next to each other and can be easily deleted. If anything, reporting it all will spam reports in the mod queue and push really important stuff like SMBX 1.4 reports to the bottom.

Getting rid of spam (and banning relevant users) is arguably more important to site maintenance than levels made with SMBX 1.4...

I was being sarcastic about how there's nothing for you guys to do besides trivial nonsense. I won't get into it - again - about the underwhelming handling of the problem though, and I'll wait on ZM and the other mods to respond with how they delete the topics before I post again.

I just go to quick mod tools and hit "Delete Topic". Deleting posts individually seems like a bigger hassle when there's a way to do it in two seconds.

Can i ask why we actually argue about spam and deleting them? And most importantly from obvious bots?
Just like Pseudo said earlier report it. Idu you Aeromatter why you keep insisting on this. I want a serious example why we bother with this. Shouldn't we just let the staff handle that?

Alright, so you're deleting it the right way and it's still an issue when people reply? It can affect pruning in the ACP, but there's no problem when just fill in the boxes and hit delete. Even if there was some effect, it would take like two seconds extra to handle it. You're not going to get anywhere by badgering people about it either, because you're dealing with the SMBX community here. There's not much for you or anyone else to do anyway except clean up the spam that keeps getting let it, lock some 1.4 threads because why not, and shoot the shit in the staff forum. It's not that big of a deal.

That ad invaded my mentality.
I using AdBlock just not only block ads, also I adding custom rules to block some heavy or idiotic pictures from signatures to don't watch them again and speed-up page loading
EDIT: with "smbxgame.com##.signature" filter I completely hide all signatures with no exception :P (Anyway, some signatures are still be interesting, therefore I prefer use this rule on smartphone to don't scroll ton of junk to read necessary text and don't eat traffic set too fast)

Yes. This is what I do since I'm rarely around when mass spam happens, so this is the preferred method when dealing with a single thread.

Also, as for why it's still an issue when people reply even if there's mass spam and it can be deleted in the MCP:
it's better to not reply to spam because that may be what spammers want. I realize that's not the case for situations like the Korean spam, but as a general practice it's best to ignore spam and not give it any fuel (this is especially true with trolls).
It's much easier just to say "don't reply to spam threads ever" than to try to tell everyone "well if it doesn't look like a troll and there are multiple threads then I guess your replies are meaningless".
AeroMatter wrote:You're not going to get anywhere by badgering people about it either, because you're dealing with the SMBX community here.
There's plenty of things we can do to deal with people that reply to spam threads, but it's generally not a big enough issue that it requires more than a "hey, don't do that". I'm sure I've said this before when people bring up similar ideas, but having the attitude of "the SMBX community sucks and will never be fixed" is counterintuitive and doesn't help fix any problem.

Why not just disable signatures from the UCP? If you know of a signature that is still interesting, it will show up on the user's profile page.

It's easy to just say "hey, don't do that" but that hasn't really solved anything. I mean ZM even started off his post with "Guys, this has been said a bunch of times before," himself so it's not fixing any problem either. It needs to be taken into consideration that the users replying to the threads are most likely not even here to read ZM's post and stop, so unless you and the mods want to take even more time to single them out in a PM telling them to stop or make a global announcement drawing attention there's not much to be done that would be any different from deleting and moving on.

Modest request: Limit signature images to no more than 115 pixels tall, and let avatars be no more than 100x100.

Just report avatars and signatures if they bother you and we'll take care of them if necessary.

I might be a little ignorant on the subject, but while we're discussing post sizes: How complicated would it be to list user information (Posts/Location etc.) to the right of the avatar? As it stands it just artifically extends the size of short posts, leaving a lot of dead space to look at. Again, I don't know how hard that is, and this is just a minor inconvenience, but it'd still be nice I guess.

That would be doable but it would make it wider for smaller screens.

Please don't do that, or make it an optional setting
