Here are only a few of the spam users in question.
Spoiler: show

Would there be a way for moderators or administrators to parse users such as this? They are the ones that start the spam.

The spam that happened was from a user who had registered recently, not one of the many accounts that had registered before I put a new CAPTCHA system in place (and it was probably a real person since they were able to get past it).

Alright, that is a good thing.

At the rate that they were posting all of the threads, and since many of them had varied posts to begin with, I don't think it would have been possible for it to be a real person. But yes you are right, it was a recently registered account. Would an increase to the amount of time you can make before making another post slow down the amount of spam, or do you think it would not make a difference?

Good album with some awesome tracks, but not as solid throughout as Torches.

It also could've been a real person registering the account (simply to get past the CAPTCHA) and then having a bot do the rest. I probably have the ability to lengthen the waiting time in between making posts, but spam like this is something we get so infrequently that I'd rather just deal with it on a case-by-case basis.

Ah, alright then. Are the IP addresses the same for the users, or are they using a proxy or something similar to register? Not sure if an IP ban would fix it or not.

Also, I didn't see it in the rules when I checked again, but is there any advisories to tell users not to post in the spam threads? I was seeing some people making comments to these spam threads, which bump them to the top of the forums and subforums, as well as the "new posts" viewing. I guess it doesn't really hurt anything or anybody, but it makes browsing the real threads that receive new posts a little more tedious if people keep making comments to the spam threads.
Another thing you could maybe to is remind the userbase that, regardless if it happens irregularly, the spam will come around eventually. A lot of users seem surprised and question what went on after one of these "attacks" happened.

It wouldn't. The IPs are from the same networks so the only thing that would work for a while - not forever - is to mass ban IPs which are from these networks, and that has already been tried. A captcha solve before posting, and blocking certain regions where these networks are from will work, however it's time consuming to implement.

This was a problem before, and will always be one given the userbase. About a year ago furry gore was being spammed, and people were not only replying to it but also including it in their posts in the form of quotes. That's the kind of people you're working with when it comes to the common sense angle of the situation.

Bing and Baidu are both search engines who have bots that crawl the site.

I was just updating the board software.

On that note, this may have fixed the problem with post deletion from the posting menu that arose a while ago and led me to enable soft deletion. I've disabled soft deletion. Let me know if there are any problems.

I'll bet the joke will be that the fine print that we think is a joke isn't a joke and since we're expecting it Joey will pull a crazy plot twist and make it a joke.
