Ocean Folly: Official Review
This is a decent level. The construction is rather simple and open, but also very natural and calm for a waterway. The pathway is altered at occasional and smooth intervals which works well for an easier level, but such transitions might be spaced out a little too much, as there's a large sense of just swimming aimlessly in whatever loose direction the level defines and avoiding enemies with ordinary and almost random placements. It's not too bad and does still offer some fun and polish, but it can get a teeny bit repetitive at times. Even something as simple as the occasional pipe to swim around would spice it up a bit.
I also found the areas consisting mainly of thin bars of land to be somewhat lazily designed, but they do require a little more thoughtful action out of the player, even if not by much. I think you could have done more to utilize the level wrap enabled in this section, because you don't inform players about it until they're halfway through, already well past the Dragon Coin that's seemingly blocked off and appears to be unreachable if you don't know that. Level wrapping's not really a standard inclusion and generally wouldn't be assumed. After that, the rest of the level's sort of just more of the same.
I will say though that the level is pretty atmospherically convincing for the type of experience that this is. The graphics are a nice simple blend of serene blue with music to match both the mood and style, with nicely spaced out decoration for a visual mix that's neither too empty nor excessive. I think the placements of seaweed versus cave rocks could have been more consistent between the different areas, but it works well for what it is. The music's equally peaceful and fitting, and does a nice job at giving the level a calm feeling.
Overall, it's a standard casual swim. While it's certainly not awful, it doesn't offer a lot of variation for the length given or do much to invest the player beyond loosely change the path's direction on occasion. However, it's structurally sound and has appealing visuals, and the gameplay is fine aside from the above. Pleasant, not stressful, but could offer a bit more.
I give it a 6/10. Pretty Good.
