I think they do, but what's funny is that Mother Brains are now oversued in SMBX.
Most of the other female avatars aren't characters who become over used (Shantae is an exception).

Despite that, I've never seen anyone with a mother brain avatar on the forums aside from me. I sure wonder why :^)
