In fact, almost everyone knows this; you're not the first one to discover it. You don't just have to use SMB3 Bowser either, any NPC can do it. There's even a topic about it.

In germany litterally anything is called different from their english/japanese counterparts. And not just in Mario games no.. in almost any game the chars are called different names which makes no sense.
It's like a translation from english to germany in a game. Where in english the Nazis are called Nazis. In germany they called Wölfe even tho Wölfe isn't even the correct translation.
Or for example in english you hear this in a game "This is fucking bullshit" and in german it sounds like "Das ist verdammt nochmal scheiße" Even tho the translation would be wrong bc fucking is not verdammt.
