While I semi-support the idea of Darth Jar Jar, all Gungans have yellow eyes in the prequels. There's a fair amount of evidence for the theory, but this isn't part of it.

Can someone tell me if this Darth Jar-Jar theory is a joke or actually serious? I've heard about it but I haven't bothered to look into it.

For some, it's a joke. For others, it's serious. I think that this is a stupid troll (= bad joke).

It's largely serious, actually (I legitimately semi-support it, in the context of The Phantom Menace). It originates from this reddit post, which posits that Jar Jar Binks was, at one point, planned to be the true villain of the prequels, but his role was partly replaced by Count Dooku after the negative reception he received. It explains a lot of bullshit in the prequels, actually, and would've honestly made Jar Jar a much more interesting character if they had gone ahead with it.
Another part of the original theory is that the new character Supreme Leader Snoke in The Force Awakens is actually Jar Jar (this theory was posted before the movie was released, for the record).
( very minor spoilers for The Force Awakens follow)
This is neither confirmed nor denied during the movie, as Snoke only appears in a few brief scenes as a hologram, but it is unlikely since his holographic form does not at all resemble a Gungan. I never believed this part in the first place, personally, as while it makes a lot of sense for the prequels, I think it's too late for them to revive the idea at this point.

I guess the trope would be worthy of a smirk if that character still turned out to be as tiny as Yoda, with the hologram more an expression of his Sith presence. I think the Jar Jar thing would have been cool if it wasn't gaining popularity as a hypothesis. The fans blowing the lid on something like that still kind of ruins the surprise, even though it's complete speculation with no correlation to the truth. A surprise is still only as good as it is unpredictable, after all. I certainly didn't predict it otherwise and if done well it would have impressed me a lot.

There we have it, you're not an octopus therefor Kylo Ren and Smoke aren't sith.
I went to see this earlier today and it was pretty great - the new characters introduced seem to fit in the universe well. I'm really looking forward to the next episode.

Snoke, on the other hand, seems to like Kylo Ren's (or should I say Ben's) balance of light and dark sides of the force. Apart from that, there is no Darth title in his name, meaning he is not a sith and nor is Kylo Ren. What do you guys think about this theory?
How does Ren use a balance of the light and dark sides of the Force? He's constantly talking about shutting away the light and stuff, and wears a black cloak and uses a red lightsaber. There's little light in him.
He isn't a Sith though, Ren (and maybe Snoke) is a member of a new group called the "Knights of Ren", which is where he derives the "Ren" title from. Almost nothing is known about this group, though, other than that it is a separate organization from the Sith Order.

I was under the impression there was technically no "light side". It was just "the dark side" and "the force" as far as the movies seemed to be concerned, at least from what I remember. It gave the impression that the description was just a metaphor for the temptation to go deeper into it for one's own personal gain. It raises questions as to a certain character's interpretation of the force in VII. For all I can tell, it was uneducated muttering or even just a divergent ideology, or it could be an outright change in canon.

The light side of the force is now canon as of The Force Awakens, at least (and I believe it existed in the now non-canon Expanded Universe before that). I do agree that it doesn't totally hold to the continuity of the first six movies, but it's an easy concept to work in anyways.

It's just the Disney version of The Knight's Of Revan. He even uses the same/similar mask. Plus, the whole reason Revan is an important character in KOTOR is because he uses both Light and Dark side power's.

Can the Old Republic games just die already? Revan is irrelevant at this point because KOTOR is part of the expanded universe which is now non-canon.
So is Darth Plagiues.

He would be entirely redeemed in my eyes if he turned out to be the villain.

It'll be more surprising than the moment where Kylo Ren commited the agressive act of killing his father: Han Solo

I'll have to say that I really wasn't surprised by that. Wasn't it pretty obvious that that was coming?

Yeah it's been done too many times. Overused death scene is overused.
