So why were our posts about the sooooo called secret cheat code deleted?
- There is no rule that says don't talk about
- Do you want people to use common sense and not talk about it?
- How should new people know they not allowed to talk about it?
- Do you think users feel good about that?
Seriously either make a rule about disallowing to talk about it instead of going in and deleting their posts about it.

You can literally find that code on a youtube video or anywhere on the internet. Will you ask that guy now to delete his video? What's the point of doing that still? It's not a secret anymore geeze.

You didn't do that before as you changed it to Alt+F4 but now it's getting very unoriginal. It's not really a secret anymore.

Well actually knowing the reason would be far more than enough for me, I really don't care if people know about it or not.

The only reason the cheat was censored in the first place was because people chose to not respect that we wanted the cheat not included in any official list(s)/spread around the forums.

Fair enough. Then I'll change my question to 'why don't you guys want the cheat to be included in any official list(s)/spread around the forums?".

Because Redigit clearly didn't include it anywhere, so it was meant to not be publicized. If you know it, that's fine - nobody's going to stop you from whispering it to your friends, and nobody's going to stop you from using it. Just don't be that guy that has to blurt it out. It's okay to have one or two things that users will have to figure out on their own. :P

I don't think we should feel the need to respect redigit's wishes since he's no longer with us, in charge of the community, or in charge of his own game now.

No harm in spreading the cheat around, is it?

When it comes to respect I suppose it comes down to the one that wishes to pay it. If Joey wishes to respect his intention of hiding the code I guess it's not of my concern, he and the staff are the ones to decide what to do.

Though to be perfectly honest I think TNTtimelord has a point.

You're correct, there's no harm in "spreading it around", but only when that means what I said in my previous post. As I said, we can't stop you from talking about it amongst yourselves. We're still not going to include it in official cheat lists and if you post it publically then you're ruining the fun of keeping something under wraps.

What is the fun of it? As far as I can tell, the only thing that keeping the cheat secret has caused is frustration and a requirement to do a quick Google search.

Redigit's original wishes for SMBX are irrelevant at this point, like TNT said. Redigit didn't want public links to SMBX to stay up either, but here we are (and that's fine, because it hasn't harmed anyone as far as anyone can tell).

I wonder if it harmed nintendo actually...

But yeah, I actually found out all of my cheats after searching online. And that was a while ago. If people find out about cheats, most likely (if they don't know what smbx.org is) they'll just go look it up on places like youtube.

Why would it harm Nintendo? It's not like they pull off what they did with that sm64 hd remake.

The fun of it, for me, was watching as303298 in a video type in a cheat and yet still be able to save, despite that I'd thought that was impossible, and not being sure how he even did it until someone blew the lid on it at NSMBX some time before I became a mod there. It didn't even occur to me from the video that it was a cheat.

It's this thing that "gets out" from time to time and become host to a new generation of the in-crowd. I dunno if that means anything at all, but I also don't know that it causes grief to anyone who doesn't know about it in the first place either. For me, not knowing the secret cheat was kind of cool. I liked that I still had to "beat" a level properly to have it recorded, and there are times when it's tempting to use and that lessens the challenge. At the same time, though, I like that it exists because it makes it possible to incorporate the cheats into the gameplay as some people have done.

I think you can make a case for it either way, but I can definitely tell you that my personal reaction to it wasn't frustration at least.

Have you ever played an online game where there are like these guilds that you can only enter if you're a part of them? For some, the secret cheat is kind of like that, in a lesser way.

And yeah, I guess it doesn't matter if Redigit is cool with it these days, but now it depends on Joey.

@Magician: Truer words were never spoken before.

For me to find a completely new cheat code felt awesome. I felt like there was much more I didn't know about the SMBX despite using it for over two years. And I understand now that I know Joey didn't want people to talk about it in the forums for fun. As far as I can tell the reason people reacted with frustration in the first place was because they knew the cheat code and their ego wouldn't allow for it to be hidden to those who didn't know it. They think that those who came after them SHOULD know of its existence, and that's fine, like Joey said they can search it elsewhere, but if it's not allowed to be spoken of here the least the userbase should do is respect Joey's decision. Like he said, it did make things more fun, for me and Magician at least.

There's no reason to hide it? Well if we relate it to redigit yeah, there's no reason. But if Joey has developed a reason he truly believes is valid, why not let it go? Is it worth it to debate about it? Over some cheat code that people can find about on their own? Not just that, if I remember correctly the New Castle Adventure (was that how it was called?) or another episode, I don't remember, had that very cheat code in one of the levels, that if I remember correctly was one of the last levels as well. Getting to know of a secret cheat code you never knew existed by completing an episode, doesn't that feel fulfilling? To know there are ways for people to find about this cheat code, why not forget about this "There's no reason to hide it, let us talk about it" thing already?

No frustration has been caused, with the exception of that brought about by those who knew the cheat and chose to waste their time trying to argue about it.

Let me reiterate that the cheat is not listed because that seems to have been the original intention which is going to be upheld. The cheat is censored in part to support that, but it's also really annoying when people try to skirt around it. It's not like it's an important or necessary game mechanic, so it's okay to not make it immediate obvious to everybody. Seriously. It's not like we're trying to hide it and limit it to people, we're just trying to keep it on the DL. Retrospectively, however, including something like "Demilogic is cool." (replace Demilogic with Redigit) really isn't that bad as it doesn't expose that it's actually a cheat.

I swear to Christ, this secret cheat talk is garbage.

Nobody cares.

We just got out of a blackout due to Joey's host being a shit and everything being hosted on that single source. Talk about that.

Let's change the topic to a more pleasant one ok? Let's talk abotu suggestions. If that's the case, I've got a few here.

- Implementation of the Online/Offline feature on the mini-profile.
This is something that I suggested prior to my leaving and I am yet to see it implemented. Just wanted to point it out and refresh your mind a little bit Joey.

- Accept PNG and GIF images for Avatars.
It happened a lot to me on many forums that each forum only accepts this image extension, this one that image extension, and this one in particular doesn't accept PNG or GIF, only JPEG. As for why would this feature to be implemented, I'll be completely honest, the reason for it is rather selfish. Having to convert images is a bother, and even more if the avatar I want to use is already uploaded and I take the URL of said image only to find I can't use it because it is a damn PNG or GIF.
