Wumpa Island

Postby Olhi » Thu Nov 19, 2015 5:39 pm

My first SMBX and second Mario Maker level, intended to be part of a Crash Bandicoot based game, inspired by N. Sanity Beach and Turtle Woods, designed to function as a 1-1 Level.

Official Review

This version is worse than Mario Maker's. In fact, there are many cons of this. Let's start with the first section. It has many styles, which seem unfitting, I mean, this is SMW styled right? If it is, then why is there SMB3 pipe and SMB1 placed mushroom tiles? Why is there vines placed in sizeable grass block? That's totally unnecessary. There's also 2 cutoffs in the same section. Anyway, you need to have a Mushrrom in order to spinjump on blocks to get down the tipe to the next section, and the problem of it - it's bland. I'm sorry, but I don't think I liked this section, it was just nothing special whatsover. Entering the door, we probably have a bonus section somehow, which has 3 1-ups and power-ups to make this easier... I have no idea if that's necessary or not, oh and more unfitting thingies - SMB1 pipe and SMB3 coins.

Back to the first seciton, I've seen some bad NPC placement, and then there's skull blocks and a Dragon Coin in tileset BGOs... alright, first of all: they're not objects for decoration, they don't fit as decorations, BGOs do, so using them as decorations is bad. Anyway, there's a warp that goes to the next section... which is the same as the first section, except that the background is changed... ehh I don't think that's necessery too, probably you can change the background by events, BUT I'm not sure yet, as I'm not perfect with events yet. Anyway, I've seen checkpoint between 2 blocks... and why is there? Even if you die, you'll still get back to the first section, which you have to do it all over again (hey at least it's not short). BTW, if you don't hit an invisible block, which is above the checkpoint, then die and you enter the level, you appear at the end of the first section, which you can't get out of here, causing to restart the whole SMBX. Anyway, more of bad design and placement and the end goal, hooray!

Overall, I didn't enjoyed this level, because of errors, cutoffs and I didn't like how it had random styles other than SMW, so if you to use SMW recolors, fix these errors, I may rate it more higher, but for now...

2/10
