How do I name a project & problem with "no overworld" option

Postby Vissova » Sun Apr 06, 2014 7:56 pm

The title about sums up my issue.
First off, in SMBX when I am selecting which game to play, they have names. "the princess cliche" and etc. However, my current project's name is "overworld1". How do I actually give my project a name? And as far as I know I have no
files in the project called "overworld1", so I dunno why it's calling itself that.

Also, I'm having trouble understanding the overworld (map screen). I selected both "no world map" and "restart last level on death". The world map is not detailed because the player will not be seeing it, and "auto start level" is called "level0.lvl". Also on the world map are three level spaces, and paths connecting them. Each one is assigned to their respective level and the first level (level0.lvl) uses the tile that says "start" on it. When I begin the game, I start on level0. However, when I complete the level, it returns me to level0 at the beginning instead of moving on to the next one, level1-1.lvl. Am I making a mistake somewhere? I've read the help file that comes with the game and double-checked everything, and I just don't get it. :u
If it helps to know, the level on the world map is set to "any" for all directions to move after level completion, and in level0 the player exits through the sides of the screen to end the level.

It isn't possible to have SMB1-esque level progression in SMBX. You will have to create a hub level to connect the levels if you really don't want to make a world map. Put the hub level as the auto start level. Also, the project's name will be the name you put in the world file in the World Name field.

You can't? That's strange, because the editor help file explains that this setting makes the game act like smb1. Was it just never finished or something?

I don't know what Blue was talking about when he said that but an episode needs a hub level or a world map in order to work. You can place a level warp at the end of the first level that leads to the second level, but you would restart from the first level if you die.

Alrighty. That sucks that I have no choice but to use a world map, though. Not a fan of that.

So I understand correctly, the name that I give my world map file will be used as the name of the project? So if I name it something like "ass blaster" or whatever, that's going to be the project name?

Yes, if you named your project "ass blaster" then that's the name that would show up. :)

Hang on - I think when you check "No World Map" then the world map is disabled for the episode. This means that when the player beats a level they should move on to the next one. But for the true SMB1 feel, I think you should start off by using orthodox exits such as the Goal Panel and as soon as they're touched, an event should trigger which shows an instant warp to the next level. As soon as the player enters the instant warp they're in the next level.

Instant warp DOESN'T FUNCTIONS WHEN IT IS TRIGGERED FOR TAKE YOU IN AN ANOTHER LEVEL.

You can use a hidden pipe or door warp and make the pipe/door item invisible. But then it can still play the door/pipe sound effect when you're not entering a door. Yet it can work best with SMB1 fortresses at the end of levels.

Please don't do this. Using warps to other levels means that saving is basically gone for the episode.

But maybe there are hidden Warps that skips you through worlds just like what the real SMB did? That would of been nice if this Feature is also there.

No, the name you give the file doesn't affect anything. I'm talking about the field for the world name in the world editor.

No World Map is for episodes that link the levels with a hub level.
