"Mario's Adventure (Generic I know.)" Demo

Postby CowboyJoseph64 » Sat Apr 05, 2014 12:55 am

Figured I'd share this with you.

hoo boy, did I make THIS fancy. It starts off with a cutscene explaining the story, then you go to "Act 1" which starts off with a tutorial. A TUTORIAL? WUT'S THAT? lol, yeah, I think i'm one of the only people that put a tutorial in their episode. *finishes act 1* okay, then we go to Act 2 which is the boss. Oooh the boss. It is REALLY hard, I had a really hard time beating him myself. I included a completed file so you can skip it if you're having too much problems. Then it plays the ending cutscene where it basically goes "yay you won NOPE!".
Spoiler: show

it has a few errors, but I don't really want to fix them because it took FOREVER to upload this demo, and I'm not DOING it again just to fix a few aesthetic errors. But I hope you have fun with this, this is the first episode I shared with other people. I had tons of practice with this beforehand, but tell me of anything you might not like too much.

You need to post at least one screenshot or this will be locked.

If you want to have a screenshot uploaded so everyone can see, go to TinyPic (a Image/Video hoster website). Here you can upload your screenshots what you made. After it is done uploaded you can get the link by copying the Link from one of the four yellow boxes where the link is pretty much saved. After you copied one on your clipboard and want to use on the forum, use the Image
You just have to put the link inside the two Image

Okay, thanks for letting me know how to post pictures. I'll post one of act 1.

Edit: Saved from being locked! I might post more pics, but for now, at least this won't be locked.

Edit 2: so... will this be judged soon? It's only a demo, it shouldn't take long for you to check it out.

So… CowboyJoseph, there are only a few level judges, and you shouldn't expect the reviews to be completed that quickly. I'd give them at least a day before complaining about time. It's a bit of an issue, we all know, but the level judges are humans too and can only get their reviews done so fast.

Additionally, I would create a topic for this in the Projects forum instead of Episodes if I were you; this is generally reserved for completed episodes, while Projects is used for episodes that are works in progress.

Moved to Projects.

Unfortunately, I am not interested in reviewing the demo since I'm experiencing some real-life business so please refrain from bugging me about it.

Okay, that's fine. Actually, I was thinking about applying to the level judges myself.

You might be a good replacement, since I'm considering resigning from my level judging job, and I haven't reviewed a level since approximately March 20th.

I guess I'll leave some feedback, too. Initially, I saw that you were making a big deal since your project has a tutorial, but it's quite typical; even if there's not an entire level just for a tutorial, it's explained chunk by chunk in pretty much every episode. However, that doesn't matter. The screen shown was definitely nostalgic, but I'm not sure why there are Sonic and Tails; even if the game is divided into acts, it's Mario, therefore unless it's an Easter egg it shouldn't be there. Otherwise, I'd recommend some scenery on the sizables since they seems bland, maybe a few coins along with a pipe or two containing some Piranha Plants, and the ground itself looks linear so I'd reconstruct that and perhaps add some slopes. Despite what I mentioned, I am enjoying the progress made so far! Every time you add new screens I'll have to check them out and leave some constructive criticism.

Demos aren't required to be judged by Level Judges.

And I don't think anyone was planning on bugging you about it, Kep. Unless CJ64 messaged you privately or something.

okay, I'm going to say what progress I made. SAY because I don't want to upload it until I think I can call it relatively finished. And I want at least 24 levels (3x8) before I feel comfortable calling it done for the time being. I'll probably update it afterwards with more levels that bump it up to 32 (hell, maybe even more than that), changes to pre-existing levels, and bug fixes.

Okay, so I finished world 1 which I shall dub "Nostalgia Land" (a land that tries to pump you full of nostalgia), and I'm working on world 2, which I shall name "Yoshi's Island" (which will be themed like Super Mario World). Act 1 has a secret exit to a toad house that gives you a hammer suit. And I'm planning on making world 3 which I will call "Puzzle Valley" (focused on puzzles).

Feedback is always a wonderful thing, it will make this episode more unique and awesome.

Edit: got rid of all references to sonic, got rid of a bunch of custom music, got rid of all custom graphics, changed the story to just "Bowser kidnapped the princess", fixed some errors, but made new ones.

Also, the custom music was the only reason why it took so long to upload. So never mind, here's an update that I released on a different forum because the levels are to be used in a different collab one:
