Quick and Easy Sprite Blender

Postby Axiom » Sun Jul 05, 2015 5:46 pm

I made this thing like last year in C#. It's the most useful thing you'll ever use in your life. It sits in your system tray and when you click it, it pulls up this super intuitive GUI.

Have you guessed what it does yet?

How about now?

You load in an SMBX mask and sprite and it alpha blends them so it's transparent. Maybe not as useful as I thought but hey, it works and it works well. Maybe someone will find a use for it. It's free, you just need the .NET Framework 4. Should work on XP and up.

Enjoy! Leave feedback because you can actually update this application so..

This is implimented in PGE. Go to Tools -> External Tools -> Convert GIF with mask to PNG. Then select source folder and target folder and all graphics and masks from the source folder will be merged into PNGs in the target folder. PGE can also fix faulty masks with the LazyFixTool (Tools -> External Tools).

You can easily do this with paint.net by using layers and copy pasting, it's also efficient for me since I often recolor the outlines.

Actually you just have to use magic wand on the white part of the mask and then paste it onto the non-mask file. Nothing to do with layers or recolouring.

My steps:
1. Magic wand black part on mask
2. Paste into new layer on the original image
3. Delete layer
4. Now there is a selection on everything, including the black parts of the sprite

Or you could just make graphics with transparency instead of black.

yeah but this does it automagically

and yes i know 1039881230948098 different ways to do this in 3 different programs, two of which i have certifications in but god dammit this is still quicker to me.

what about SMW sprites that have black borders? now what? B)

also, this was coded before the lazy fix tools and stuff iirc. plus this is a simple standalone exe for those who don't want the whole pge project (but then again, who wouldn't)

idk i figure i'd release it anyway.

also it does a kinda cool thing on windows 8 and 7

Hey look, it's a great program, especially for people don't/can't use PGE. It also looks extremely easy to use as well. Coupled with you NPC Code Editor, this would be a great standalone for SMBX users. Despite the work you've put into this, I don't think you're quite getting the appreciation it deserves. I mean SMBX has now got two brilliant successors, but I don't see any complaints there that's it already getting done.

But I mean tbh you can't really compare SMBX to a sprite blender, after all a fangame is way more complex than a tool for making pngs out of the masked gifs.

However, I'm certain people without PGE will appreciate it.

At least you made it and it works! That's an accomplishment in itself!

GIFs2PNG, LazyFixTool, PNG2Gifs are standalone exes but designed for drag&openwith and console way, and there are can exist without entire pge toolset. In the bottom of main page http://engine.wohlnet.ru you will found separated png2gifs, LazyFixTool, gifs2png download links. Even calibrator can exist separately from PGE. There are addional tools and are not required to general PGE runtime. Main parts are editor and engine which uses same config pack structure and same dlls included with pge packag
Currently PNG2GIFs has own builtin gui for dummies who can't use console, lazyfix and gifs2png still be completely console tools. The pros is ability to do conversion/fixing of large numbers of graphics with ability to look into subdirectories too. Con is alone - exept png2gifs you need to use console or pge editor to launch graphics conversion jobs
