castlewars wrote:Yes to both. In fact, nearly everyone makes levels with more than one section. Also, don't use custom music that's longer than 6 minutes because it takes up file space, and try to name it properly, as a lot of custom music songs are often misnamed. If you want to use a track from Super Mario 3D Land for example, let's say the overworld theme, don't just call it "overworld" because the judges won't know what it is, instead call it something like "SM3DL Overworld" so the judges know what it is.
Why would the judges want to know that? As far as i know imnbh4l is the only one who searches for misnamed music.

Maybe because of this?
Name the custom music as shown above. Here's an example. If it's the desert theme from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, don't name it "Desert" or "Custom music" because it could overwrite an existing custom music with the same name when I pack the levels for the judges. Renaming songs and then making sure they still work in the correct levels is extremely time-consuming. So do this instead: name it nsmbw-desert.mp3. That's a great way to prevent overwrites, and if somebody happens to use the same music, the overwrite is actually beneficial as the double song will be eliminated and the package size will be reduced.

What if i name it to something else like "Holyshititsadeserttheme" and nobody else has that. I also remember not everyone named it like you should in the last contest.

Well you could use that, but let's say you want to use the Zelda theme in a Zelda-themed level, you can't just call it "zelda theme" because someone else might be using it, call it something like "LBW Zelda theme" if it's from Link Between Worlds, or "MM Zelda theme" if it's from Majora's Mask. But you could evade everything by calling it "omfgitsthezeldatheme" because to be honest, the judges don't really care about how you named the music tracks, only caring if two tracks clash.

Gosh you guys are having a silly argument on how formal to be when naming your song. Be simple and just name it something that won't overwrite any other songs. That's all there is to it.

I'm from talkhaus and I was wondering if I could design a SMBX level for the contest.
Want to practice my skills with SMBX level editing and all.

HOW TO WIN: Mix tilesets correctly. Just look at all the other contest winners.

Or just simply know how to mix tilesets. Same thing really. It's a key to winning, fellers!

Well depending on when this contest ends, ill offer my services for a bit and reward the individual with a free Steam Game (assuming situations financially go as planned). So lets try out best now, neh?

I am going to if I find the time to make something! I will see if I can make 20 different things so the top 20 all get something, seeing how hard that is to get usually! I can try to make a few tile-sets "even though I have never done so". The winner would get a month early release if I plan on doing so...contest winners usually get praise, but I have a confession! I am trying to out do one of your previous levels... where I use the same style or not so I wish every one good luck!

SMBX 1.3.0.2 doesn't require using the actual coding for LUA to play .oggs, it just needs the application itself
It's been almost a week and another one of my legit posts have been ignored and/or gone unanswered

No, I'm not gonna use SMBX 1.3.0.2... Generally I'm probably not going to do anything that will require everyone to download something extra.

question: can you make a topic to show how much your level is going a long and some details to it, without screenshots? (so you dont reveal a lot)
