What browser extensions do you use/Browser Security

Postby aero » Sun May 17, 2015 2:49 am

So what does everyone use for their web browser?

I use the following:
uBlock - Blocks ads, and uses fewer resources than ABP + it's open source.
Disconnect - Prevents third party tracking, and saves up that bandwidth for a faster connection.
HTTPS Everywhere - Secures your connection by using encryption while browsing. It was also developed by the TOR project and is open source.
Ghostery - Blocks tracking scripts, and anything else the above extensions miss. It is also open source.
Modify Headers - Allows you to spoof and alter HTTP header data to make my browser less unique. Also it allows me to spoof my user agent, until javascript overrides it which I have disabled.
FlashControl - Blocks Flash elements on pages, to prevent tracking.
Referer Control - Prevents third party sites from seeing which sites I've came from.
Cache Killer - Prevents sites from storing data.

Also, I have only essential plugins running for fewer MIME types and cookies/java disabled.

With the extensions above, these are mine:

Still working on fixing the one red box, and the other orange ones but it's way better than it was on my first test without these extensions. The extensions I listed are all available on Chrome and Firefox too.

What exactly do you have to hide so much?

All I have is AdBlock Plus, because I'm not really worried about hiding all my data and preventing tracking and stopping whatever and everything. I'm not paranoid about that because that's quite overboard unless you specifically go on dodgy sites or the Deep Web (which accessing is illegal anyhow as far as I'm aware).

I moderate a Mario fan game forum, I don't have anything to hide either. It's more of a protest thing and protection from third party sites, since all of that make it a bitch for typical sites to track. And no, it's not illegal to browse the deep web. The deep web, is just anything that doesn't appear on search engines. That's pretty much it. Stuff in the deep web, like black markets and CP, are illegal but not everything.

I use AdBlock Plus, that's it. No need for anything else, and this laptop is already shitty enough as is. Don't need any more reason for lag.

AdBlock Plus and a few other random ones that really are kinda useless.

I usually have Ad Block Plus and Web of Trust installed on my browsers. Wot is great because you can look at a site's reputation from the community to ensure it's safe to visit, and well everyone knows what ABP is.
