Star World Troubles: Starting out

Postby lolothesamurai » Mon May 18, 2015 4:44 pm

Hello everyone. I'd like to introduce my new project.

I've had this project in mind for years now, but the first time I actually got around to it, I accidentally deleted my entire first world due to the level files not showing up, and I gave up for about a year. I have now revived my interest and while I don't 100% remember my plot ideas, I will decide what the plot will be here. Now keep in mind slight things might change in the plot and the title.

Story
Spoiler: show
Bowser has found his way into the star world. He has disrupted the peace in the star world, stole millions of stars while hundreds have disappeared into several different parts on earth. Now Bowser is the most powerful creature on earth and Mario cannot simply go and stop him as it is too dangerous. He must gather the stars that have fallen on earth to return them to the star world. Bowser has decided to share some of those stars with his minions so it makes him slightly less powerful enough to make Mario have enough power to reach him and defeat him with the stars he collects. The King of the stars is the only one that remains and his power has been drained from all the fighting in the star world. He asks Mario to go collect the stars and beat Bowser.
The idea
Spoiler: show
The idea of the 100% requirements is that there are at least 2 stars in each level. One of them is obtained by finishing the level simply, the other one is obtained by collecting 5 blue coins in each level. However, the blue coins aren't just scattered throughout, some of them are hidden and require Mario to do a certain task to collect them. To collect the blue coins star, you must collect them all without dying in the level, meaning that checkpoints will be useless to you unless you are trying to collect an extra star or just wanting to finish the level. The extra star won't appear in every level but it will require Mario to do a certain task in order to obtain it.
Screenshots

Now I only have 3 levels done at the moment, so I can't provide 1000 screenshots but I will update this post here with the more screenshots I get and will bump this post up (if its ok) in order to let people know that more screenshots have been added. Of course, I won't do this every time I finish a level, I'll do it every so often in order to not bump this up like crazy.

Right so some news.

I've got a friend who agreed to help me with custom graphics when possible. A busy time in his life is coming up though so once that's done and dusted he should be able to help me out meaning the next few screenshots will be without custom graphics.

Some of the music in this game so far.

Dragonball Z Raging Blast 2 - Soldiers Sorrow
Super Mario Bros 1 - Overworld All Stars
Crash Bandicoot 2 - Rock it/Pack Attack
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Sky - Lower Brine Cave.

Right, so I found a solution to the custom graphics but I'm likely going to do the levels out of order. I'll post my progress tonight as I've created the episode map. I'll probably release a pre-production demo once I make enough levels if that makes sense. Since its my first episode, I'd like a good feel of where I'm going with this.

Oh, that's good to hear. Good luck on your project, hopefully there will be no bugs inside the levels and world maps.

your level design is okay...
why the blue coin on the pit? (see 2nd image and 6th image), it's impossible to get it. If I take the coin, a bad thing happen : take the coin, fall to the bottomless pit, and DEATH......

I don't know if you noticed, above the blue coins there is some paratroopas. Probably they got down so you can stomp on him and catch the blue coin.

Miles Troopa is correct. Those 2 Paratroopas will go down so you can jump on them to get the blue coin. I've tested this already.

And thank's for letting me know my level design can improve. I'm working on it at the current moment.

question. Do you guys think that 4 or 5 levels would be good for the pre-production demo?
