How to make a SMB 1 style episode (ie no world map)?

Postby insanoflex » Sun Mar 02, 2014 5:33 pm

Title says it all. I've got the world set up so that it starts on the first level (and have the no world map box checked in the editor), but I cant seem to figure out how to get the program to go the the second level after the first one. If I use a warp, I cant save, and I don't have any ideas for another way. Any thoughts?
help = apprieciated.

Normally if you are inside the SMBX Main Hub Level it will save. Did you used a Cheat Code during the game because after you used a Cheat Code just once, the game will not save your progress what so ever. By the SMB Styled Gaming type, maybe try to make a Hub with like 4 chained Levels each other to combine into one world and at the fourth, you gain a Star in order to enter the next world.

How would I transition to the next world? I didn't use cheat codes either. Ideally I would want to make use of the instant warp to transition but for some reason only the regular pipe-style warp works. Of course, I'm probably doing it wrong. I like the star idea actually. I was thinking of doing something other than the standard Bowser boss exit.

Did you actually attempt to put some levels into the world map? If so, the SMB1 gameplay's already out the window because the player automatically goes to the map when the player dies.

If you tick "Restart Last Level on Death" that nullifies any world map access at all, because when the player dies they will go back to the checkpoint or to the start of the same level. And by the way, if you want to have it in the proper SMB1 style, including the cutscenes between the levels when the player enters the pipe, then you'll need to make separate levels for those.

So, in the World Map you must tick both "No World Map" and "Restart Last Level on Death". Then chain levels, just like the others said, with each level having an ending victory cutscene that finishes with the player entering the warp to another level. Castlewars said that cutscenes like entering an underground level must be made in separate levels, and I can't disagree with him. Do the same cutscene in a castle, with a Toad saying that unfamous sentence and a SMW star, and do a door that leads to the next world. If you want that the player enters the world selection level, you can add a warp pipe leading to it at the beginning of each level. As for when the last main world is completed, yeah, after Peach's "Thank you", there should be a door leading the world selection level. Bear in mind that THIS is the hub, not World 1-1. Still in the world map editor, the Auto Start Level can either be the intro leading to World 1-1 or World 1-1 itself. Each world, in the hub, has to be accessed with the stars you got in the previous worlds. For example, to enter World 2 you need 1 star and so on. This way, if you get a Game Over, you'll start from the hub without being allowed to skip worlds. If you want an even better feeling of SMB1, use LunaDLL and use the instructions from the following topics:

Hope that was of use, because MY FINGERS ARE ON FIRE AFTER WRITING THIS!!!
