Mafia Discussion

The popular forum game that separates the good from the bad, the strong from the weak, and the loose-cannon cops from the slightly schizophrenic. That's all after we figure out who's who, of course.

I don't mean to be a pessimist here, but I really don't think it'll work out as well as the system we've always used. We can try it still, but just saying.
Joey wrote: M14 was the first Mafia game I had played since M4. I don't particularly have a desire to read through Mafia threads I have no involvement in (let alone the pages on which safety lynch votes were used) when I have the whole rest of this community to administrate.
I'm well aware at how busy you are with administrating the forums, but you still call yourself a GM when you barely even do anything as one other than make big changes when you finally decide that you want to be a little more involved in Mafia. That's why I said that if you call yourself a GM, then you should act like it.
Joey wrote:Come on, man, you're not really in a position to be talking down to me like that. I do a lot more work throughout the community than I do in the Mafia forum; I have the GMs here to do the work that needs to be done that I can't do (which is a lot of it, and they obviously do a great job).
I don't see how I was talking down to you (refer to last paragraph). Like I said, you are hardly involved in Mafia nowadays, but when you do decide to be involved somewhat again, you make these big changes, and without even discussing it with Pseudo or FallingSnow.

Yes, I would also appreciate it if you'd consult FallingSnow and I about stuff like this before changing it. And I remain in favor of the old system as well; I don't really understand why you felt a need to change it. It really worked fine.

My apologies for not consulting you guys first. I wasn't aware there would be a giant storm of overreaction following it.

I hope everyone can sense a little bit of my frustration here. This was not a decision that required the response that it got.

Thanks Joey, apology accepted, no big issue or anything.

But this doesn't really seem like an overreaction to me; I agree that this is a useless new sub method. The old way was better, and pretty much everyone but you seems to agree.

Did you expect everyone to instantly agree with your decision, especially when you done it without consulting with anyone, along with the fact how we've been using an already-working method?

We're going to try it and see how it works, since I've seen it work before. The only forseeable problem is that the Mafia forum isn't active enough for people to see the host's/player's message requesting a sub, but we won't need to worry about that.

What I expected was for people to not care so much about the sub selection process of all things. I didn't think this would be so major of a change and everybody would be opposed to it.

It wasn't the change itself that was the big problem, it was more about how you suddenly imposed a rule without asking anyone and then held onto it after everyone was against it.

The problem with this system is that the host will be asking people to sub whereas with the before system people that felt like playing Mafia after the game started can sign-up as a substitute in the event that one is needed. I'd much rather have people sign-up as a substitute ahead of time instead of me having to PM somebody at random to come fill in a position for an inactive player, wait for a reply from them, and to find out it's a "no", just to go and look for someone else and repeat the process all over until I find someone that would be willing to substitute. The system we had in place before was a lot more efficient and a lot quicker, this new one will just take forever.

Ignore my comment about sending PMs to people. I only added that to support the "I don't care how you get a sub just as long as we deal with it as it happens".

I do agree that having the list was good to look at, but my problem is not that we have a list in the thread to look off of but rather that we just have an unnecessary sub signup process.

Once again, you're not going to know until you try. I guarantee that a sub request posted either in this thread or the game thread will get a reply within a couple of hours, which is not long at all when it comes to Mafia. It could very well be the same amount of time to PM the person who's first on the sub list and get confirmation that they can actually play, assuming you do that.

Ok, but still, how exactly is the thread titles having a word more and not getting locked a problem?

Because why edit a topic title (or, in this case, leave a thread open) when you don't need to?

Just saying that suspicion lists are really helpful, even though they're not useful. They help get discussions rolling and everyone's lists are helpful. We should definitely resort to these more frequently.

Hey everyone, I need a sub for M16, replacing The Wizard of Off. It's fairly late into the game, but he's been inactive since Day 1 so this would be really helpful.

OK, as long as he's paying attention to the game it's alright. He is supposed to PM me though.

(I don't need a sub any more though)
