Bowser Help/ Advice

Postby dragonborn97 » Mon Feb 02, 2015 10:52 am

Hi. I'm new to SMBX and this forum. I don't know what category this would fall under, so I'll just post here for the moment: I'm creating a battle that's SMB3 Bowser vs Link. They start at the bottom of the level and work their way to the top, where eventually, with nowhere to turn, Link has to fight Bowser one on one rather than outmaneuver him. I'll get a screenshot or video up here showing this, but I'm basically looking for help to make this better... I'm a newb to all of this if that helps.

Yeah, seeing the level would be nice. I'd gladly help you out if you show us the level!

This should probably be in Help and Support...

Also, if the level is finished you could put it in the Levels subforum and one of us could review it...

Ok, I've got pictures since video was a pain. I'm not entirely sure how to follow Turtwig's suggestion, so I'll have to figure it out. To be clear, I'm not using layers or events as I don't know how... also, how do I account for Bowser's height and unpredictability besides raising the ceilings and trying to make the platforming somewhat strategic? :?

Also, I do realize that Link can use his sword. Part of the idea is that since he's trying to outrun Bowser, he'd occasionally have to try and hit him, or block fire with his shield. Although I'm also confused as to why Bowser breezes through indestructible blocks to catch Link during Test parts....

A few things:
1. Link can't jump that high.
2. Bowser will have trouble getting up there, especially in the 2nd screen.
3. The mystery block in the first screen is too low.

You really need to revise the way the blocks are assembled for this to be even POSSIBLE.

Oh brother... well, that certainly explains why Bowser literally hits the ceiling every so often. Is that probably why he glitches through as well? And which block, flower or heart?

Taking both Link and Bowser's approximate jump heights into account, here's the redone one. Now, you also have to choose when to fight, and when to nab health or firepower since the sword isn't that strong. Plus, there's an equal chance both can get up top, and it's practically a deathmatch......

Link still can't jump that high unless he's running, and Bowser will be in the way. Also, I meant the heart block.

Ok. What would you do? All I can figure at this point is to switch it to going to the right rather than bottom to top...

Make the platforms able to be passed through from the bottom.

Ok, so not solid blocks. And in this redo I made it to where link had to head to the right first before the other blocks. They're kinda high on the left at first so Bowser can jump up there without crashing into the ceiling... I guessed Link could jump at best 2-3 blocks high, and I'm thinking bowser can go 4 blocks, but I'm not that sure.

You should test your level to find out what works and what doesn't.

I do. That's how I found that Bowser will sometimes glitch through the Blocks. That's why I tried to do a video, so the battle and level could be seen in action. I'll definitely experiment with the platforms and see which ones can be leapt through from the bottom. I'm also not doing anything with extra layers or events, just basic stuff. Sorry if I'm getting annoying..
