I spoil'd your screenshots, put such large things in one next time.

Your project seems to be going along decently, some of the screens, however, seem wholeheartedly lousy; particularly the case with the seventh and tenth screen. I would just from scratch totally redo that ice level shown in the seventh screen again; it's practically just springboards, and a tileset that looks okay in some aspects. Not to mention there being no background, scenery, coins, pipes, enemies, or anything.
What's the problem with the tenth screen, you might wonder? There's a full spam of note blocks, and it seems complicated when it comes to bouncing off from the ceiling to floor all the time; of course, if it's an ongoing gimmick I'd accept it exceptionally, but still. And the background doesn't fit whatsoever; it partially clashes with the SMB3-esque atmosphere and definitely clashes with the tileset.

On a positive referral, I'd say the first screen is what all of the screens should contain; enemies, brick blocks and question blocks, coins, a variation of background objects, and there's no pipes, but still, it's good which is all I'm asking for.
I do hope to see this finished, keep up the good work.

Way to judge entire levels from single screenshots. I wouldn't tell someone to completely redo a level after looking at only a screen of it. The level obviously doesn't consist of mere springboards. It could use a background in my opinion but it's a matter of taste. It creates an empty atmosphere. Maybe that's what he was going for.

The level in the tenth screen looks decent in my opinion. Having used the note block gimmick in a very similar way, I can say it's not bad at all. And I don't think the background clashes with the tileset. Just because they're from different games doesn't automatically make them unfitting, although I do avoid using elements from too many games at the same time myself. Again, it's a matter of taste.

My taste is strict; except I do admit saying he should totally redo a level by a screenshot is a bit farfetched, that was better to say than downright say it's awful looking and not appealing whatsoever.
Also, the reason my personal perspective told me that the SMW-styled cave background clashes is because it has a grayish color while the SMB3 cavern tileset he used was orange and green. You can't argue with yourself that it doesn't look good, that's for sure.

These are some rather decent-looking screens. I like the design and detail in the first and fifth particularly, and the upside-down levels are interesting ideas. However, those are a bit empty. Upside-down lamps and pillars for the castle and clouds for the outdoor one would populate them a bit better. The castle one is looking a little devoid of enemies, too.

I'm intrigued by the ghostly level with a purple forest background as well. That one looks like it has a lot of potential in terms of layout and atmosphere. The bouncy note level is somewhat unique, although I agree with Kep that the springboard screen could use a background and perhaps some coins. The rest looks a bit on the average side to me, but without anything for me to really complain about. These levels look at least enjoyable to play, and have decent styles of design.

Good luck on this project if you continue with it.

I liked the first one, didn't like the second one, but judging by the screens this one looks good. I like ghost screen especially, it gives off a spooky feel.

They didn't break the size limit, therefore they shouldn't be spoiled.

It's a slide level, hence the springboard gimmick. It's heavily influenced by the slide level from that one SM64 level. It's one room, taken from the snow level you see in the other screenshot.
Kep wrote:My taste is strict
That doesn't many any sense at all.

Also, just because two styles are from different games, does not automatically mean it "clashes" (is that even still a thing). If it looks alright to me, then it should look alright to other people. If you would actually go into detail on HOW it looks bad other than "bleugh smb3 with smw thats clashy!!" then I'll take you seriously.

Just a bit of advice from one level judge to another. ;)
Let me see here...
Initially, just a kind reminder, any screenshot should be spoil'd because they simply waste thread space.

Sorry, I did not realize it was a slide level. I simply assumed it being a level jump-on-the-springboards-or-die so don't take my recommendations serious anymore.

What I meant by "my taste is strict" is because Valterri said "it's just a matter of taste". I have a strict taste, therefore I point out ridiculously minor stuff. Also, I'm a grammar police.

I do sort of comprehend "just because two styles are from different games, it doesn't automatically mean it clashes", but the reason I immediately remarked that the background DID clash with the tileset, is because the colors are immensely off; some sort of subcon-ish (where did that come from) gray doesn't go well with green and orange. And to clarify,

*quote taken from an earlier post made by me*
Just some bit of advice, perhaps use the original SMB3 background. But if you're skeptical to do so, I personally see no problem and I'll stop complaining.

@Clash: I understand where you're coming from, but the background doesn't clash with the tileset just because it uses a different color; I honestly think it looks fine as it is. Maybe the original background (or maybe the SMB2 one?) could fit better.

I think the ruin blocks at the second screen should be darkened, though, as they honestly look a bit too bright when compared with everything else. The decoration also looks a bit too bright and vibrant, but that might be just me.

---

Other than that this look great, though; the level design seems fine and the aesthetic part also looks good. I really like the 9th screen's gimmick; it's simple, but at the same time very creative and the execution also looks great. Good luck with this, and I'm looking forward to see more of this!

That still makes NO sense whatsoever.
Don't play dumb, it's a ridiculously simple concept. Some people hold smbx pictures to a higher standard than others - in other words, people have different opinions. It's not hard to understand at all.

Wow this is back? Good to see. Hopefully this one won't be rushed or whatever, although I did like The Great Empire 2 personally. Anyhoo, the screenshots looks nice, as other people said. I really like the look of the kind of upside down castle level. Looking forward to this if it's ever actually completed.

Authorial intent does not invalidate an opinion, but the same goes vice versa. Having a "higher standard" in this case is itself subjective.

I didn't even know you had a second Empire, Knux. Good luck with this one.

The episode seems to be good, with a few modified graphs, doing so seem a vanilla episode, seems to be an episode more for the fun than for whims graphs.

I'm actually looking forward to this project, and I expect to see more from you in the future.

Also, I didn't see anywhere were you might have stated this, but how complete is the project?

@Namyrr: I think you mean Yin. Also, Knux is female? =O

I do think that Kep is pretty strict. It's easy to question whether it's really his taste or if he's just complaining about what are just possible implications of clash (i.e. ANY kind of game mixing). I'm afraid to do any game mixing in my levels because he'll almost certainly mark down my score for it, if he reviews it.

Anyway, this looks pretty good. Simple, but good. I especially like the upside-down levels as they seem pretty creative. The note block level looks fun as well. I'd change the background in it just because the colors don't match the midground tiles. You could also recolor it to the red-orange/brown color of the SMB3 tiles.

I have a suggestion for that episode:

A remake of SMB1 1-1, but, it starts at the end so you have to go to the beginning while avoiding the traps in it!

The Idea was used on ASMBXT by Sadwyn or something by calling ,,Ehcilc Os Era Sekamer'' meaning,,Remakes are so cliche'' backwards
