Help editing player sprites

Postby 12Me21 » Mon May 19, 2014 6:10 pm

I want to change the player sprites, but I need to know the spacing between each sprite in the image file. I tried to find out what the spacing is, but it seems to be inconsistent.

Each frame in a player graphic is 100x100, with the actual sprite being anchored in the very upper-left corner. Despite the extra space, making a bigger player will just result in the same hitbox with the graphic partially buried in the ground.

Sprite of playable character - sheet 1000x1000 pixels divided into 10x10 frames.

To correctly fit into original SMBX's hitboxes, I recommend use the Playable Character Calibrator (use button "Image Calibration" where you can move frames on sprite to take fit it into SMBX's hitbox):
http://www.smbxgame.com/forums/v ... =69&t=6180
Note: you can use "Animator" to preview your sprite in action before test them in game

P.S. how sayd Chad, don't edit hitbox properties because SMBX have statically defined hitboxes which we can't change (just to make player more fat or more higher, or change GFX-Offset). But, now able with LunaDLL change width and height of player, but GFX Offsets now impossible to change (is not researched yet)

I hate how horribly the sprite sheets are layed out. You can make the player sprite extend into the ground, but why would you want to? There's also no point in extending it to the right, since you can't do the same to the left because the hitbox is all the way to the left.

Image

This might help you. Save the image before you start. Just go to paint or whatever you use and resize it after cutting. Cut half of it out from the bottom because it's 20 by 20. Do the same with the right or left side. Resize it to 1/8 (because it's an 8000 by 8000 image and you want it to be 1000 by 1000).

Use the image I sent you to help you with your sprites. (Collaborates well with PGE Calibrator). My advice is to put your player sprites in the corner.

Did you notice that this guy asked that question over a year-and-a-half ago?
