Mafia Discussion

The popular forum game that separates the good from the bad, the strong from the weak, and the loose-cannon cops from the slightly schizophrenic. That's all after we figure out who's who, of course.

Also, refer to this:

Alright, can you fucking stop telling me I should have stuck around? It wouldn't have made a difference because I would have gotten killed the next day anyway as Gohan suspected me, and he even stated he did, so stop telling me I should have stuck around because I would have died anyway.

Gohan was the one who suspected you, you were pretty much allied with the Town at that point, because nobody believed Gohan at first, you were not the only one. I don't think you would have been lynched. Stop getting so angry.

Now, as people have stated, there have been some problems with Mafia recently, particularly in this game. To make it fair, punishments will not be given out to people on rules which have not been clearly defined as of this particular moment with the exception of GMarinaX who will not be able to participate in M12. As stated in the Mafia Rules, usage of screenshots, whether real or editted, is not permitted. The same also applies to text logs. You may post the text of a conversation, but a screenshot of a chat window is not permitted.

To get back to the problem at hand, there are two main issues I would like to focus on in this post in particular. Both of these strongly relate to sportsmanship. Now, Ignoritus has stated before that Mafia is a team game, and players should support their team and not circles of friends. Similarly, the attitudes of players should support this positive sportsmanship. The flaming that may occur in arguments here is not permitted just as it would not be permitted elsewhere on the forums. Remember that this game is supposed to be fun. Sure, sometimes people won't listen to what you want, and that's to be expected. Mafia is a game of suspicion and manipulation at heart. Don't be upset about that! It's going to happen. Everyone will have games where he or she wins or loses. You cannot win all of the time or as much as you may like, but this doesn't mean you should be angry at others. For example, there was an argument a few matches ago where one player back-stabbed his friend, and it hurt their friendship. I personally don't want to see things like this happen, and they really shouldn't. To get back to my point, we all need to be supportive in our attitudes. Qig has been one of the first to die in a few games recently, and he's not complaining about it. Death in this game isn't something to get worked up about as he has shown. Oftentimes it can be exciting to spectate the arguments that break out. Of course I expect arguments among parties, but keep them civil. Prove your points with logic, not emotion.

The second issue comes up with the whole concept of quitting. I can understand where 8bitmushroom is coming from and the reason he quit this game. I don't blame him, and he is not being punished for this. However, I would like to say that we need to commit a bit more to mafia games. Dropping out due to inactivity is one thing, but quitting purely out of frustration is not. Not only does this hurt your team's chances of winning, but it can ruin the atmosphere of the game of the other players as seen here in M11. It will likely become a rule here soon that players need to make the commitment to the games. Things may be bad this game, but this should be an exception to the attitude seen in Mafia games. If we can improve the attitude I mentioned before, I don't think this will be a problem.

Yes, Mafia is a game, but it should be taken seriously. Although people may get worked up over things from time to time, we are all friends here, and you all need to remember that. Lighten up and have some fun with us. :)

Now, as this is not the topic for this kind of discussion, feel free to comment on this post in the general discussion topic. Enjoy the game!
We don't need to argue with 8bit, everyone.

Can we just follow Elsa's advice and stop bickering?

Can we please hold M12 after KoolKat's game? It's going to be so stressful having two games going on at one time again.

Yeah, I agree to that, plus people arent joining his game because they want to be in M12 i believe. I'm honestly only in kat's game so we can get it done. That way he gets his host chance.

Yeah, this is the plan. I forgot about this and posted the host sign-ups a little early, sorry about that. M12 will not start until krazykat's game is finished.

I'm (relatively) new here and Mafia sounds like a REALLY hard game to learn but it sounds very interesting. It feels like D&D in my opinion, it's hard to learn and remember the rules, but it's fun and exciting in the end.

It's not too difficult. Just be sure to read through the rules and then look at some of the earlier games such as Match 4 by qig. :)

Matches 4, 5, and 6 are all great examples.

Okay, I have read the rules and understand them, so maybe someday I'll start a Mafia match? I doubt I'd be even allowed to do that here.

P.S. Someone should make a short little guidebook to Mafia in case they still don't understand what the rules are like.

So according to KoolKat from what he told me he was banned again, so what are we going to do about his game?

You know, I would absolutely LOVE to host a Mafia game.It sounds great! Plus, since the SMBX forums are nice, it's unlikely I'd leave it for [insert reason here]. :D

If you want to, create a game and post it to the host signups thread. If it wins, then you'll be the host of M12.

You have to play in a few Mafia games before you can host.
