Super Mario First Class

Postby sezixor » Mon Feb 24, 2014 10:14 am

Welcome to my project! I've been working on this for a little over a year and I'm about half way finished! Still a long way to go. I hope you will enjoy the following:

Concepts:
Spoiler: show
This is a three-star project that will take place on a world map. The level length will vary, but I will try as hard as I can to keep the quality consistent, and good, for that matter. You will be allowed to play as three characters; Mario, and two other secret characters that replace Peach and Link. There will be nine worlds; you can look on the worlds spoiler for more information about that. Every world will have a village/mushroom house and secret level. The level design isn't your typical Mario type level, so don't expect that, meaning that there are a lot of levels with darkened and rendered graphics. The level design is fairly non-linear and expansive at times as well.

Every level uses custom music. My guess is that by the time this project is finished it will use more custom music than any project ever. I am trying to use lots of music that has never been used before in SMBX.

Progress:
Four worlds complete! The first two levels of world 5 are finished as well.

Story (New)
Spoiler: show
Once, many eons ago, there was there was a small tribe of lumas who all possessed a great and mysterious power. They all lived happy together for generations, until one day a dark force wiped out many of them, leaving only three of them left, a little luma named Starle and her mother and father. The family of three lived together peacefully despite the unknown crisis, until it happened again, only this time they could see what was happening. Three menacing and powerful creatures appeared, followed by a dark but malicious shadow which followed close behind. The monsters attacked, with the intent of capturing the lumas and doing something horrible to them! It appeared that they wanted their mystic power. The lumas were powerful, yet they were nothing compared to the three monsters and the strange shadow. The mother and father luma were immediately captured, and Starle was next, until a strange figure appeared. A powerful warrior named Rasiu swooped down and nabbed the innocent luma before she was taken to the hands of evil. Rasiu and the luma quickly plunged into a deep specehole which teleported them far away from danger. The luma’s parents were never seen again.

The space hole teleported Rasiu and the Starle to the mushroom kingdom. Unfortunately, using the coordinates of the transportation hole that Starle and Rasiu had used, they were able to trace their location. Evil was to come to the mushroom kingdom, a threat far greater than Bowser, Wart, or any of the other antagonists that appeared in the lifetime of the Mario brothers.
When the monsters arrived, they immediately detected the great power of the King Grand Star in Peach’s castle. Ironically, Wart had invaded the castle at the exact same moment, with the intent of capturing the princess. The monsters arrived and captured the Kind Grand Star with ease. However, they would be stopped. Rasiu, knowing that they would use the power of the star for evil, attacked. He needed to use the Kind Grand Star for an important mission as well. He launched a missile at the monster’s ship, blasting it down. In the event that the ship crashed, the three evil warriors appeared to confront Rassiu, while Starle was hiding from them at a distance.

The three warriors were about to obliterate Rassui until – they received a transmission from their leader (The Shaodw). Suddenly, the plans had changed. The King Grand Star was floating in the distance. Rassiu had planned to use it to try to save Starle from evil, but that didn’t happen. The head-honcho of the three warriors – shot a beam through his eyes, blasting the King Grand Star into millions of little stars, which blasted across the mushroom kingdom with the force of the explosion. Mario had witnessed everything.
The warriors vanished, and bad things started to happen to the mushroom kingdom, as reports and scanners had shown. In many areas, the land was becoming dark, haunted, deathly and uninhabited. It was the work of the warriors. But why? They didn’t appear to be pursuing Starle, but they weren’t leaving. They were doing horrible things do the land in the mushroom kingdom, why? What was their main objective? What did their leader want them to do?

Meanwhile, Rassiu had a goal. His original plan was to use the Kind Grand Star to generate enough power to stop the monsters from causing trouble. Unfortunately, it shattered into millions of pieces around the mushroom kingdom. New plan! Mario, Rasiu and Starle will set out to capture all the missing pieces of the star to bring back the power of the original so they will have enough power to stand up to the monsters. They all have motivation. Rassiu wants to stop the monsters and bring peace to the universe once and for all. Starle wants to find her parents and avenge her fallen tribe from so many years ago. Mario wants to bring his star back and protect his homeland from further destruction. Along the way they will encounter altered and unnatural lands created by the three warriors, evil creatures from outer space via the monsters, troops from Bowser’s empire who still have a grudge agents Mario for all the time that he defeated Bowser, and the three powerful warriors themselves. The stars are scattered over eight different regions, plus some in outer space as well. The three heroes will travel all over the globe to bring back the stars, and bring peace to the mushroom kingdom and the rest of the universe.

In the 11-from-last screen how did you make faded effect?

I lowered the saturation using paint.net.

Hey sezixor! Remember meon the old forum? Well, I said on this episode that is a my of the best, hmm, now it's sucks!
No, I'm kidding you! Hahahahahaha, well, however I really like your screens, yeah all. Especcially I love the last screen!
From I see, the stuyle of this level, it's sounds familiar as the 1-9 Frightful Fort. Yeah, however I must have this now!
I'm not waiting for a epsiode of this, so hurry up! XD
Good work on this!

Thanks! I am glad you like my project and that you enjoyed the demo when I posted it awhile back. Yes, the graphics in the last screen were recolored using the same methods that were used on Frightful Fort. I haven't mentioned this yet, but I would like to point out that the slopes in the last screen were made by SuperMario7 so thanks to him for making those. About the last comments you made, I also with that was the case but unfortunately, that thought is far from possible. I am a really slow designer to begin with, and considering the effort I am putting into these levels, also bringing up the fact that school and life has really decreased my progress, I can't even begin to think about when this will be finished. One thing is for absolute sure, and that is that it won't be any time soon. I will work on it when I can, but it will still be ages before I can complete it. I may release another demo sometime, though.

Thanks! I am happy you like my project, especially considering how much of a good designer you are yourself. Hope you like the new levels when I finish them.

I haven't made many updates on this in a while so I've decided to post some screenshots of my most recent levels. I even threw in one of the levels from world five (the last two screens) as you can see. The third screen is the level I was originally going to submit for the contest, but I didn't finish it until recently so I submitted something else. Regarding that screen, it was made a while ago and there are a few errors on it that I have fixed, such as the missing player-one starting point and some of the graphics without recolors. Thanks to SuperMario7 for letting me use his forest tileset in the second-last screen and I would also like to thank Valtteri for making the Zelda tilesets that I used from his graphic pack.

I have worked really hard on some of these levels, so feedback would definitely be appreciated. Hope you like the screenshots posted below.

Edit: I just noticed a missing leave BGO in the forest screen, no one has pointed it out yet, but if you do than know that I will fix it.

Wow, great new screens. The levels all look amazing. Great graphics and design and stuff. I'd suggest putting decoration in the clouds in the last two screens, but other than that great work.

BTW, sorry for not getting back to you on the rest of the reviews. I'll try to finish them but it might be a while since I haven't been using SMBX much recently. But, I still want to be your beta tester if you want me to be. I'll be more active this summer.

You’re probably right about the clouds. Adding more decoration inside them would definitely help. I'll see what I can do.

About the reviews, I actually forgot about those myself. No need to worry about them. You can send them whenever is best, don't sweat it. And of course you can still be a tester! You have been a big supporter of this project from the beginning, which I really appreciate, and I enjoyed reading your reviews for it. As I said, you can finish the reviews whenever you think is the best time to do so.

Wow, this looks amazing as I can tell by the screenshots. Nothing wrong by your designing. I am really looking forward to your SMBX Episode.

Wow, I am absolutely loving the new screens! There is so much attention to detail in these screens and I love it! Also, what's the third screenshot's theme supposed to be? Is it some factory-magic-cave kind of hybrid because I'm not sure. Great project though, truly one to watch! :)

The 21st screenie looks like literal excrement. Could you, at the very least, make it more yellow-ish?
