A new user came into the IRC today asking about the captcha question.

seriously make the question a little easier

Then I just tried "Sakurai", and it didn't accept that either. Tried things like "Bill Trinen", "Satoru Iwata", and none of them were accepted, and now I'm banned from trying to register for a little bit.

It would be better to change the question to who is the publisher, which would be nintendo. Bc the question asks for the developer and there are 2 devs but only one is right.

Also why is BANDAI NAMCO Studios Inc. wrong if the last person who asked for the answer and did Bandai got it right.

When I registered, the question was something like "What is the name of Mario's brother? (hint: he's green)." Why did that need to be changed? It apparently didn't help prevent bots from registering since we had that issue back in March...

Yeah, I agree with this, and I remember that question as well. It's something that anyone who would be legitimately registering on the forum couldn't possibly get wrong, while also being what I'd guess to be an effective CAPTCHA.

Do you think it would have been more appropriate to PM Joey this log instead of publicly in what looks like an attempt to make a fool out of Joey?

I wasn't trying to make a fool out of Joey. I was just saying it needs to be fixed.

The problem with this is that Joey probably would not have responded, and there are multiple staff that can communicate on the issue instead of having JUST JOEY do everything.

The only problem with the captcha is that it doesn't accept individual people (Sakurai) as answers - then again, you can google "smash bros wii u developers" and the answers are right on the first result.

I'll think about adding Sakurai to the list of answers.

I've sent you plenty of PMs in the past about concerns and suggestions and you never responded.

So it leads me to believe either you don't respond to PMs, or you don't respond to my PMs, and if that's the case, it leads me to believe even further that you really don't care for me at all.

This seems like a really good idea to me.

If you adding Sakurai you should add the seco d dev team also. So far it only accepts Bandai but not Sora.

Captchas are well known for their high difficulty.

Is "Who made SMBX and Terraria" too easy? I think that would be a very good captcha.

Aren't captchas only made to keep away spambots? The questions shouldn't require such strict answers, since you'd also have to keep in mind variations like "Sora Ltd.", "Masahiro Sakurai", "Sora", and I could also see someone answering "Namco-Bandai" since god knows how often they changed their name. In general I feel like a captcha shouldn't require a Google search for so many. After all, this is an SMBX forum, and I can see especially younger users not being too familiar with Smash' development.

We should just make it this "Who is the blue running shoe dude. Hint: he's blue."

Or maybe you could make the captcha like addition. Or maybe just make fancy letters. Or something like that: |1gth0u$364

Really, the best Captcha is one that any human who doesn't know better can still work with, while a computer could never figure it out. That's all there is to it.

Well, it doesn't accept "Sora Ltd" without a period, for example. The system was created to intuit that a person is using it. Also, people seasoned enough by forum captchas to expect to have a simple answer expected of them WILL type "sakurai" or the like, probably pretty often.

Regardless, it's a problem that it doesn't accept correct answers. Even if I were to go into semantics, "developer" can and does refer to individual people, requiring you to narrow down what you want further (you could include that as like "Hint: Use company names and not a specific person.") or add all of the correct answers.
