Thwomp Ruins Tileset Pack

Here's a more difficult to use tileset pack based on the Mario Kart 8 track,
Thwomp Ruins.
I tried my best importing the tiles in a reasonable manner, although you might need a few minutes to find everything and navigate the menues, as there are a lot of tiles and I'm certainly not good at importing tiles.
This tileset pack includes a rough 150-ish different graphics, including two main tilesets, a thwomp npc, some quality of life blocks and bgos, as well as variation and eyecandy tiles.
Download from mediafire!

Wow man! Really good job. Could be great for a temple type level!

The Thwomp and ruins tiles themselves look good.
Now, I have to ask, was the SMW hills background meant to go with what's in the foreground? I could see it working, but something just feels a bit odd to me.

Gameinsky was kind enough to make PGE tileset files for this tileset. I have updated the first post download to include those.

I was just looking for a background which roughly makes sense considering the environment without having to import any custom files (same with coins). I'm sure there are backgrounds out there which fit better.

Disclaimer: the two arcways (in the middle of the picture) are sizeables. PGE makes them look tinier than they actually are in the editor, so if you see a weird tile that doesn't seem to fit in with anything else, it's probably a sizeable.

wow, I like the tileset. Is that SMB3 styled or SMW styled?
also, great job. I'll use them later.

very awesome tileset, I can definitely see myself using it (and possibly adding to it). I only have one question. Why are there no thwomp statue BGOs in this since it was in MK8? I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering. Also the thwomps look like they have buck teeth since there is no space in between the thwomp's teeth. Aside from that, it looks very well done.

It's custom styled, I use my own colours and shading.

Mario Mart 8's Thwomp Ruins actually feature surprisingly few Thwomp Statues. In neither of my reference images there was a thwomp statue which could have reasonably been implimented without taking up the entire screen.
I thought about adding the gate in the background. Once from the side, once from the front, but it'd either not be recogniseable or unfitting in a 2D environment. You mentioned you wanted to add to this. Feel free to then also add some thwomp statues. I'm sure they'll do nicely!
If you look back at my reference image, it shows the one frame I took my entire thwomp design from. If you take the dark colour connecting the teeth in my graphic away, you'd see that it also looks rather silly and would need precise adjusting.
Thanks for all the feedback guys!

I could see the gate working by making it some kind of gate. Redraw it from an npc, force it to friendly and add an "invisible" door on top of it.

Looks nice for the most part, especially the rock with grass in it, also the shading on the stone where you stand on.
The grass on the slopes looks a little cut off, though.
