Darkonius/Darkmecha Imitators

Postby Waddle » Fri Mar 20, 2015 3:43 pm

So this is something I've been seeing very often lately;
people who use EXACTLY the same graphics as Darkonius/Darkmecha/Any other popular designer. The enemies, the Special blocks, sometimes even the tilesets. I honestly don't have a problem with this, but then again; Why can't people come up with graphics that work well together themselves? I have a certain preset I always design with, that is 90% custom. I don't get why people can't come up with something on their own, but that could be just me. What's your opinion on this?

(Also, no offense to Darkonius/Darkmecha, you're both great designers!(I just used you two as an example))

The title should be "Chad imitators" if anything.

I've noticed that too, people are unoriginal when it comes to using different graphics and it kind of bugs me too to be honest. My assumption is that people are too lazy to rip their own graphics or they don't know how to rip graphics. It really does get boring seeing the same graphics used in just about every level/episode for sure though such as SMB3 recolored SMB1 graphics or boring old (recolored) SMB1/SMB2/SMB3/SMW graphics. Even nice recolors won't do it for me, these overused graphics are simply boring.

I'm definitely one who tries to use unique and "never before seen" graphics {B)

If I see cool visual design, I want to recreate it and possibly add my own spin to it. I don't see how people using the same tileset combinations is a bad thing.

My head canon is that Sednaiur makes edits to his ripped graphics so he knows when people are using them :P

Hm popular designers

I think i can say, that most people only use the Smbx Graphic Pack, which has been a thing since Red_Yoshi made it. For one i never saw someone really using gfx made by others which are posted in the gfx section. One example, the WL npcs Marina, Txunere and iirc FOS helped a bit.

The point is that people just use the same graphics all the time. It's not bad, no, but it'd be nice to see new ones every once in awhile because it gets boring seeing the same graphics used all the time

Not everyone has Paint.NET here. (Windows XP user here) Other than that, there are literally no good graphic designers in the forums.

Why are we talking about this as a bad thing? I'd consider it a good thing for users to follow the graphic and designing habits of famous level designers because it more likely results in better design around here.

I have paint.net 3.5 on my windows XP computer. ;) Anyways, I have actually never really used anyones gfx because I kinda have a strange opposition to use someone's gfx... :p
