I was too afraid to make this post because I didn't know what others would think.
I don't care anymore, I'm not doing this for respect or recognition, this is for peace of mind.
There's so much to say, I don't even know where to start.
Well, let's begin with the actual start.
This thread, which started out as a complete shitpost.
Little did I know my product of boredom would create a shitstorm, a disaster and bring the complete fucking worst out of all of us.
Now as I have said, I don't think staff inactivity (one of the biggest issues according to the thread) is AS MUCH of a problem as select users make it out to be, and while it most definitely isn't lowest priority, there certainly isn't a solution as easy as "appointing new staff members". That is something that requires time and research.
I can understand that people have lives and higher priorities than the smbx forum (or at least I would hope so), however, it seems as though some members are just staff for the sake of being staff. This is where I see some of the anger from regulars stems up. Recently, I had asked what Kley had in the moderator history, to which I was answered with a straightforward "nothing".
Never have I seen a userbase so hostile towards its staff and vice versa. THIS is the weakest link of the community, and it always has been: User-Staff Relations. Literally no community has had as many "haha nice ban for no reason" or "I don't need to show you any respect" posts as SMBX.
I'm going to pound it into your skulls if I have to: Respect is a two-way street, no matter who is on the other end. You're expected to respect and to be granted respect, no matter who the fuck you may think you are.
Moving on, I was absolutely disgusted when I read through
Magna's most recent announcement (actually, i wanted to make a big post about that for a very long time, but never got around to doing so). However, and I really hate to say this, I did read through and see some points that need to be talked about.
The level designers group does seem like more of a popularity contest if anything, then again I'm not entirely sure since I haven't seen the purpose of this group. Regardless, I have yet to see a full "official" SMBX episode.
As for Game Masters, there aren't many. Quill is inactive, but Pseudo and FallingSnow are incredibly reliable and do a terrific job handling Mafia, so they pretty much cover what needs to be done there.
Mafia is always incredibly active, and I'm quite happy with how well it has been going (with the exception of users i will not mention acting completely immature in order to bash one another's games in favor of their own).
However, there is one issue I have with this area of the forum: the roleplay section has yet to be seen in action, and for reasons not communicated by the staff.
Joey: I respect and admire all that you've done for this community.
But I don't think you're cut out for administration, plain and simple. I've supported you all the way, but I don't know anymore. Your staffing choices just don't work, and there's in incredible lack of communication between yourself and the userbase. I wish you the best with these forums from here on out.
DarkMatt: You asked me specifically to show some humanity, so here it is.
I understand and respect that you would go and confront me about the Kley situation, and I'm actually very surprised you did. However, "Well, when the forum's burning, I have to deprive it of its fuel sources in some way. Best way to do that is, well, fight the fire with a greater fire. There's definitely nicer ways to go about this, but none of them are faster at stopping a blaze than a giant conflagration" is an enormous red flag. You are not helping this community, this is regression. You're doing your job, yes, but please do it in a way that people will respect you for. You need to act as an influence for the users. This is not a full time job you're paid for, staffing is a privelege and ultimately a symbol that you are a trusted and reliable character.
Now that I think about it, the topic should have been named "We need TO change"...
Just look at us, the so-called "veteran" members of this community, having a go at each other because of a few inactive moderators. Inactivity is the least of the staff's problems. I feel so bad for the newcomers, because us and the staff are the ones who should be setting examples for them. I sincerely apologize to anyone reading this who has no idea what's going on; I can only hope the future will be a brighter one from here on out.
Me: I apologize to the community for my ridiculous reaction to the recent IRC incident with Kley, and that is one of the primary reasons I'll be taking off.
Not once have I spoken out as loud as I am tonight. It's been five years, I've had enough. Between this forum, that forum, these staff members, people complaining about bias, SORA and everything else, I've decided it's finally time to take my leave. It's been a long run.
And I don't regret a single minute of it.
If I hadn't been here for as long as I have, I wouldn't have met the harsh yet incredibly supportive friends I have to this day, wouldn't have played a game I've absolutely fallen in love with, would have never practiced drawing as much as I do now, and wouldn't be currently concepting a video game I'm going to be working on in the future.
If you'd like to keep in contact,
you know where to find me.
Change for the better, community. You can do it, for sure.
My time here is long gone.
