Need ideas for minigames

So... I'm working on another project and decided I wanted to add a few minigames on the map inbetween levels... The problem is I have no experience on such a thing :|

This particular episode can ONLY be played as Peach. All three types of minigames in the episode have a 1-up as a reward, and you can't die in any of them. The problem is that I don't know how to make a nonlethal minigame challenging enough, and if it is too easy to earn the 1-up, players will just re-enter the minigame level multiple times until they have 99 lives.

I need a few ideas or suggestions regarding the mechanics of the minigames.

I think it's better to add a Minigame during a level instead of having them on a world map or if you want those minigames on the world map you could use a power up as a reward instead of some 1ups... but that is just my idea as of now.

Give the player the 1up at the start, but make the game lethal. If you win, you keep the 1up.

Hm, then maybe having them longer than intended so they shouldn't necessarily have to re-enter it over and over again just for some 1ups... there is another method but the problem is that it necessarily needs SMW Stars in order to work properly.

Well, the stars are being used to open up warps in the warp zone (you get a star after beating each major boss), which is mainly to make traveling back and forth on the world map shorter and less annoying. Using the stars is out of the question. I will use FanofSMBX's method described above. Thank you.
