I miss this thing, and i know a lot of kiddos people couldn't handle this because they either abused it or didn't take their rep count well at all


if it might be possible, maybe it could be made so user can choose between having reputation or not having reputation? like choosing wether or not people can uprep you and downrep you.

That would only result in people with -reps disabling them.
So it wouldn't make much of a difference.

That is actually a good idea but even then we have to wait until this whole forum has been updated to the latest version for phpbb... if I recall correctly.

i mean people with negative reps could disable it when they realize thay cant actually handle their rep count

But that would make downreps practically useless depending who you'd give them to.
Which is dumb and the reason the rep system was taken down initially.

I thought the rep system was a good idea, allowing users to see when they made a good post and when they made a bad one.

But I already talked to Joey about this, and he said it isn't coming back.

How about just make it to where you can uprep people?

I say we start putting a like button on individual posts, at this rate, so people could know what's and who's popular aside from post count.

That just ruins the purpose of having a rep system in general just for a lot of positive feedbacks all over the place in this forum.

Pretty much this. Having a like system is a great idea, and I'd even be fine with only allowing likes on posts.

Either way, I don't even know if it's possible to do that with phpbb.

Post liking would actually be a great idea, especially when it comes to liking peoples work. I'm one of those people who don't bother posting comments on peoples stuff because I'm damn lazy, and since short posts like "looks good" are generally frowned upon, I'm practically left with posting a lengthy enough comment which I won't do. A like button is a nice and simple way of saying "I like it" or "looks good" or "I agree" or some other stuff and it only takes a few seconds to press that like button. It would also show that more people look at your stuff more than you think since I'm sure there are people are like me. SMBX:Revived had a like post system and I used to think people didn't really look at my stuff at all until I saw all the likes on my post

The reputation system caused more harm than good, so Joey's reason for disabling the rep system is completely justified.

About only being able to uprep, I thought about that too, but after further thought, it wouldn't work out at all. It would be abused a lot (basically being uprepping for no reason and such), and the staff would have no way to revert the uprep to make it legitimate like it was before, so this would just keep happening and happening. Hell, Bossedit8 would probably have 80 upreps if this happened, since there wouldn't be a restriction on uprepping besides the 100 post rule. =P

The Smogon Forums have an option to like posts, but the number of liked posts doesn't follow the user around. I think those forums use phpbb also

+1 on the Like system.

A like system would be nice.

Like system also sounds good to me, for basically the reasons Txunere said.

I'm not adding a like system or bringing back rep. We've proven we can't handle the rep system, and I think post liking is kinda silly.

"Silly" enough to potentially stop useless posts such as "I like this" or "Cool level/graphic/project/episode/art/thread".

How about we disallow those useless posts instead?

Because we already do that.
