It's nice of you to stick with other ideas like making a hub world. From what I saw in the screenies, the levels look nice but could have a little more background object touch. Nevertheless, good luck with this project.

We've all been there, man. ;P
There are loads of videos on YouTube explaining the basics of layers & events. If you want, I could give you some tips.
