Club Nintendo to be Discontinued by July 1st

According to this official notice from Nintendo themselves, their rewards program will be discontinued in the next several months due to their development of a new rewards program. Here are some important things worth noting:
1. Dozens of downloadable games and a limited quantity of exclusive reward items will be available by February.
2. Members who are registered (
in US and Canada only) will receive a download code for Flipnote Studio 3D in February.
3. Coins can be earned until March 31st, 2015.
4. Any games released after 1/20 can not be used for coins (i.e. Smash U can be used but future titles like Mario Party 10 can't)
5. Elite Status users will receive their yearly rewards between April 1st, 2015 to April 30th, 2015. You must have 300 coins for gold status or 600 coins for platinum status by March 31st.

So If I join right now I can get flipnotes? Or do you have to have already been a member?

I believe the requirements are to be registered before March 31st and have at least one product registered to your account.

Very glad about this. I really hope the next rewards system is so much better, especially for areas outside the US. Our selection of things to buy is terrible in the UK.

So wait I'm confused here. I don't think I ever had Club Nintendo, but are these the same points that you redeem to get things from the Virtual Console store or is it something completely separate from that, because I own a Wii and I have a shit ton of games I still want to get through the Virtual Console store but I've never had the points to do so, will those be going away, or is the VC staying and just other things are going away?

Oh crap Flipnote isn't Japan Exlusive anymore. My other 3ds just became less valuable! But seriously, it is sad to see club nintendo go. I liked getting free stuff.

Another program of sorts will replace club nintendo in the coming months. When, I'm not quite sure.

Not exactly. I did answer your question, the answer is just not there for some reason. Anyway, coins and points aren't the same thing. You aren't able to get what you exactly what you want, but what Nintendo provides monthly. So either you settle for the things you already have/don't care about or let your coins go to waste.

What I'm getting at is Club Nintendo a separate thing from the e-Shop where I can get my games from the Virtual Console or do the points/coins tie in with each other? Like, I have yet to get Ocarina of Time from the E-Shop and I want to get it from the e-Shop, but what I want to know is that if Club Nintendo = e-Shop/Virtual Console, should I even bother buying points if they're just going to be gone soon?

We don't have Club Nintendo here in Finland at all, so I son't be getting that Flipnote Studio. Kinds sucks.

It's going to be sad to see another part of Nintendo be discontinued. Club Nintendo, like Nintendo Power has been around for I can't even remember how long and like NP, it used to be a big part of my childhood. It's been great to be a part of and I hope it's successor can live up to the Club Nintendo name. On another note, I was starting to track down the old CN comics and no doubt the prices of those will sky-rocket. Some of them are expensive enough without becoming uber collectible.

Is there a way to register games that you get from the eShop? I get most of my games from there, but I don't see any way of registering them...

That depend of where you live. I'm not able to register any products because Norway is not a part of Club Nintendo.

If you have your CN account linked with your NNID, all games you buy on the eShop will get registered automatically, you just have to participate in the survey.

Even if you did have CN in Finland, the Flipnote Studio 3D deal is for Canada / USA members only.
