M15 Host Sign-Ups (Poll up!)

Postby FallingSnow » Fri Jan 16, 2015 6:20 pm

A whole new kind of trouble in...

Mafia: Match 15

We're looking for your quality mafia hosting skills and your quality mafia games for our next match!

You've seen Mafia.
You've watched Mafia.
Now, it might just be your time to host some Mafia!

Sorry to Nickname, but he will not be hosting. :(

How do I apply?
All you need to do is post your game suggestion in this topic!
However, you must have participated in at least one mafia game in order to sign up.

After you have posted, your two Game Masters, Pseudo-dino and I, will edit your post and respond in green at the bottom if we approve.
If we have comments or changes that we recommend, we will edit in red.
Optional suggestions may be in yellow or orange.

Tips to Remember:
Each user may only submit one game, so choose wisely!
Your game should contain around 15 to 20 players.
Have about 1 mafia member for each 4/5 townies.
Your match doesn't need to be overly complex to be fun and interesting. Sometimes a good combination of roles can produce a better result.

(And please don't PM me asking about which match to choose. Thanks.)

Ready for Mafia?
Think up some ideas!

Good luck to y'all.

Also, I already got a rough sketch for my next game. I think I might've told Marina what it is once.

I'm back, with another fairly standard Mafia game.

M# - The Best of Both Worlds
Format: Cardflip - 20 players

The Mafia
Godfather: Mafia, cardflips green.
Consort: Can block one player's ability each night.
Juror: Lynch vote counts as two.
Thug: Can paint one player black each night, obscuring that player's role. Paintings last until the next night.

The Town
Double Voter: Lynch vote counts as two.
Vigilante: Can kill one player each night. Loses this ability for one night if s/he kills an innocent.
Sheriff: Can learn the color of one player each night.
Doctor: Can protect one player each night to prevent them from being night killed. Cannot self-protect.
Prostitute: Can block one player's ability each night.
Survivalist: Can protect self up to two times over the whole game during the night to prevent him/herself from being night killed.
Townsperson
Townsperson
Townsperson
Townsperson
Townsperson
Townsperson
Townsperson
Millwright: Cardflips orange. Thinks s/he's a regular townsperson.
Miller: Cardflips red. Thinks s/he's a regular townsperson.

Serial Killer
Serial Killer: Can kill one player each night.

- Win conditions are standard.
- Power usage is optional.
- Insta-lynches can happen.

Credit goes to several other players for concepts used in this game, especially Layla.
FallingSnow wrote:I feel the Mafia might be too strong given that they have a Godfather and that there is a Miller and a Millwright. (5 total mafia in a 20 player game is fairly high.)
I'm also not really a fan of percentage based mechanics.

Changelog wrote: - Removed Martyr.
- Added Townsperson.

M15 - Disguised Deathmatch
Faction Game (somewhat)
Cardflip Game
19 players

The Mafia wins if they outnumber the other factions put together.
The Bandits win if the Mafia is dead and they outnumber the other two factions put together.
The Armed Forces win if the Mafia is dead and they outnumber the other two factions put together.
The Bystanders win if the Mafia is dead and they outnumber the other two factions put together.

At the beginning, the Bandits, Armed Forces, and the Bystanders are all working together to eliminate the Mafia. Once the Mafia is dead, (it will be announced when they are all dead) it becomes a Faction Game between the remaining teams. Players will not know who else is in their faction. During this part of the game, each player will PM me, voting on who to kill. The players with the most votes from each individual faction will be killed.
Example: 4 Bandits vote to kill P1. One votes to kill P2. 3 Bystanders vote to kill P3. 1 votes for P1 and the other votes for P2. The Bandits kill P1 and the Bystanders kill P3. Knife in the Boxes can occur during these killings.
These nightkills do not occur until AFTER the Mafia is dead.

The Mafia
Overlord - Immune to nightkills. Chooses someone each night. The Overlord will learn the color of that player. Votes on who to kill each night.
Jailor - Can jail a player each night, roleblocking and silencing them for the day phase. Can kill someone himself every other night. Votes on who to kill each night.
Swapper - Can swap two players each night, switching targets between them. Votes on who to kill each night.
Example: Player 1 and Player 2 are swapped. Player 3 inspects Player 1. Player 2 will be inspected instead. Player 3 will not know this, but Player 1 and Player 2 will know they were swapped. They will not know who they were swapped WITH.
Ninja - Cardflips green. Votes on who to kill each night.

The Bandits
Cloaker - Can paint himself a different color once during the game.
Theif - Can rob a user of a gun. If said user does not have a gun, they will be told the Theif's identity. Cardflips red.
Scammer - Can give a user a fake gun, which, if an innocent is shot by it, the gun will blow up and kill the user instead of the target.
Sidekick - No special abilities.
Sidekick - No special abilities.

The Armed Forces
Gunman - Can give a user a gun every other night.
Nurse - Can save a user each night. If that user is attacked, they will not die.
Spy - Can inspect a player and learn their color each night.
Soldier - Cardflips green. No special abilities.
Soldier - Cardflips green. No special abilities.

The Bystanders
Vigilante - Can kill someone each night. If he kills a innocent (not Mafia, or a member of his faction once the Mafia is out) he loses his ability for a night.
Veteran - Can go on alert two night during the game. He will know who visited him during those nights. Cardflips blue.
Bomber - Can place a bomb on someone each night. If someone visits that player, both players die. Bombs are removed when a new one is placed.
Townperson - No special abilities.
Townperson - No special abilities.

When a player gets a gun, they can choose to kill one player with it at any point in the game.
Pseudo-dino wrote: This is a really well-built game. I like the combination of factions and standard Mafia.
I feel like the Mafia has no chance though, considering the other groups' abilities. You need to make it more powerful, perhaps add another player to the group.
Updated, needs re-reviewing.
Pseudo-dino's revised review wrote: Looks good now. Approved.
Thanks for including the changelog in particular, that's great.

Pseudo-dino wrote: Seems balanced enough to me. Approved.
FallingSnow wrote:I would suggest letting the Scarecrow choose whom to scare the player to.
I'm slightly confused by the Mirrorslime. Maybe reword it so it's more clear? The way I understand it, any abilities used on the player the Mirrorslime becomes will be used on the Mirrorslime instead.

M15: Prison Secrets
A prison/jail-themed Mafia game that uses factions (for once).

Story:
Recently it was discovered that an escape was being plotted in the Joey Correctional Facility, and thus, five undercover agents were sent by an unknown organization to figure out who is trying to escape, as well as a private detective hired by the prison staff. The prison staff (and private detective), undercover agents, and five prisoners suspected of plotting an escape each work towards different goals in the jail. Who will come out on top? Vote for this game to find out!

Gameplay:
15 players
Faction Game
Cardflip
Regular Lynching

Factions:
Faction 1: The Agents
All agents know who the other agents are.
Agent Snitch: This agent can tell a player about the whereabouts (role usage) of another player. This agent can choose who to tell and who to tell about.
Agent Tamper: This agent can tamper with the items of another player (prevent them from using their ability or items) each night. However, this agent is unfortunately blind and won't know who he's tampering the items of.
Agent Fighter: This agent can choose to KO a player each night. However, this agent's color will be revealed if a staff member visits him the same night.
Agent Medic: This agent can choose to revive a player from a KO each night with his secret stash of pills.
Agent Orange: This agent is a professional actor and for that reason cardflips orange, like the other prisoners. His lynch vote also counts twice.
Winning Conditions: They must figure out who the Escapist is and have him KOed or dead on Night 9 without getting discovered by the Staff. You'll see what I mean later.

Faction 2: The Prisoners
None of the regular prisoners know who the other prisoners are.
Escapist: This is the one prisoner that has developed an escape plan, and will be able to escape on Night 9. If he is not KOed or in Solitary on Night 9, he will escape.
Tattletale: Being the suck-up that he is, he can tell a player about the whereabouts (role usage) of another player. This prisoner can choose who to tell and who to tell about. He cardflips red because the other prisoners hate his snitch-like qualities.
Thug: He can choose to KO a player each night. However, his color will be revealed if a staff member visits him the same night.
Merchant: He can sell a player an item each night, including the staff and agents. The item can be chosen, but the player is picked at random. Items are listed below the role list.
Bunk-mate: The bunk-mate is randomly assigned to another prisoner or agent at the beginning of the game. The person he is assigned to will know he got assigned the bunk-mate. The bunk-mate's trustworthiness also causes his vote to count twice.
Winning Conditions: The Escapist must escape for the Prisoners to win, because the Escapist will be able to help the other prisoners escape afterward (these extra escapes are not part of the game, and are only for story purposes).

Faction 3: The Staff
All players know who the Staff are at the beginning of the game (and can therefore be manipulated by the prisoners and agents alike). They cannot be lynched (except in certain occasions).
Warden: The Warden is the head of the jail, therefore causing his lynch vote to count twice. He is unable to accept items from the Merchant.
Guard: The guard can choose to KO someone with his baton each night.
Chef: Each night, the Chef can chose to give a prisoner a nasty meal and make them unable to use their ability that night OR give a prisoner an delicious meal and let them use their ability twice that night.
Job Office Manager: Each night, the JOM can choose to give a prisoner a job, silencing them the next day and making their lynch vote not count. HOWEVER, the prisoner given the job will be immune to being lynched the same day.
Private Detective: The private detective was hired by the staff of the prison to investigate the escape plot, unwary of the five undercover agents' arrival. The Private Detective can inspect a prisoner each night and learn their color.
Winning Conditions: It just so happens that a previous riot had lead to the escape of five prisoners who had been arrested for breaking and entering, grand theft auto, extortion, illegal gambling, and many more burglary and money-related crimes. The Staff's goal is to "accidentally" kill all the agents. Oh, and of course they need to prevent the escapist from escaping too.

Items:
The merchant can sell any of the following things:
Pills: A player can swallow pills on a night, preventing them from getting KOed. The player must swallow the pills BEFORE they get KOed for it to work.
Contraband: A player who has Contraband can give the Contraband to another prisoner each night without the other person knowing. Players who have contraband will have their color revealed the next morning, including the player who was given contraband by the merchant if they forget to give it away. Does not work on staff members.
Bribe Item: Can only be given to Staff members. The staff member must accept the bribe, and if he does, the staff member's lynch vote will count thrice (three times) the next day. However, if the staff member accepts the bribe, and another player visits said staff member, he will automatically be killed.
Weed: The very item the Merchant got arrested for selling. The player can choose to smoke the weed any night. If they do, they won't be able to use their ability, but they can't be KOed (because they're already kinda knocked out, in a way). However, if another player visits this player the same night, they will be killed.
FallingSnow wrote:The complexity of this game might be a bit much for players to handle. There are a lot of terms and a lot going on for anyone to keep track of.
As far as balance goes, it looks fairly balanced.
I'm not big on the percentage based mechanics. They make a lot of the game luck based, and that's not really fun.
EDIT: I've changed all percentage-based mechanics to the sentences in bold. Instead of luck, it is based on if a player visits the same player that night.

EDIT 2: This is now a death-prison. KOs are still the same though (KO = 3 nights of not being able to participate in the thread or use abilities). The "New Terms" section is no more!

I'd suggest just making the Brawler a Silencer-type role. Makes more sense (to me anyways, but then again I'm not a Game Master).

I think it's because your game is more complex than the others. The GMs have to take time in evaluating the game perfectly to the point to where it'll have no flaws, and with your game being more complex than the others, it'll take them longer.

Depends on the situation. Mine might require the points from both GMs due to its complexity.

I posted this on the Game Concept thread, but I think it would work here:

MAFIA: SUPER MARIO BROS. EDITION

Colors are a bit different here. Green and red are swapped.

Players: 20

THE GOAL:
The Toads have to lynch all of the Koopas and avoid having the Princess be Kidnapped.

The Koopas have to Kidnap the Princess, or if she is dead, lynch all of the Toads.

Whenever the princess gets kidnapped by Bowser, she dissapears and is assigned to any Koopa. when that Koopa is lynched, instead of being out of the game, the Princess is freed and comes back.

Basically, when Peach gets kidnapped, she dissapears from the game, and the Mushroom Kingdom has 5 days and nights in order to choose the right koopa. If 5 days and nights pass, then the koopas win. The koopa who is lynched gets 2 days and nights out of the game, and their name is not displayed. When the person comes back, they are disguised as a toad, and their name will be red. After 5 days, they will come out of their disguise and their name will turn green. Their role will then change to a Koopa and another Koopa will take over the role they previously had.

KOOPAS:

Bowser: King of the Koopas. When a Toad is lynched and he voted on that Toad, then the Princess gets kidnapped. Know's if a Koopa is disguised as a toad.

Bowser Jr.: Bowser's son. Takes Bowser's role after he is lynched.

Kamek: A magical Koopa wizard. Can change a player's color.

Dark Koopa: A special kind of Koopa. When lynched, takes a player down with him.

Hammer Bro.: One of the most Powerful Koopa soldiers. Can double vote a player.

Boom boom: Can destroy a random person's powerup.

Koopa: Normal townspeople of the Koopa Kingdom. There are 4 of them.

MUSHROOM KINGDOM:

Princess Peach: Ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom. Can vote twice unless kidnapped. All Mushroom Kingdom inhabits know her role.

Mario: Hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. Can save someone from being lynched.

Luigi: Mario's Brother. Can give a power-up to one person per day.

Yoshi: A dinosaur from Yoshi's Island. Can eat someone's power-up to remove it from the game.

Wario: A greedy plumber. Can steal a item.

Kooper: A friend of Mario. Cardflips green.

Toad: Normal Townspeople of the Mushroom Kingdom. There are 4 of them.

POWER-UPS:

You can use one power-up per. day and night. Everyone starts with one and more can be obtained though Luigi. Max at a time is four.

ImageMushroom: Changes a player's color.

ImagePoison Mushroom: Reveals a player's color. Can't be telled apart from a Mushroom.

ImageFire Flower: Lets you do 2 votes.

ImageStarman: Makes you immune to lynches.

Image1-up Mushroom: Removes a vote from you.

Image3-up Moon: Removes 3 votes from you.

ImageSuper Leaf: Reflects a lynch back at a random person who voted.

Image? Block: Random effect from any other power-up.

Changes are that I removed the Brick Block and Golden Mushroom, reduced the number of normal Toads by 1, and added Wario to make up for Kooper and Boom Boom.

Switching the red and green will throw off a lot of people and should really be avoided.
Having an equal number of team members for each team is not good.
The whole game setup with kidnapping Peach and people being out of the game for X days and coming back after X days and changing to X color or winning after X days if X player is killed and also has X ability used on... etc. is confusing.
Can Koopas ever even die?
And you have these power-up things going on as well which further complicate this.
Maybe I'm being mean, but I just don't see how this would work.
