Welcome to the Community Poll Topic! In this thread, you'll get to vote on issues you decide.

The way it'll work is that you guys have to decide on an issue or problem you think this community has, or a suggestion of a new idea to make the community better. I don't really care what it is as long as it's...poll-able, if you get what I mean. For example, "what's your favorite color" is not an applicable question, but "is green the best color" is. Basically just something that can be answered with yes/no/maybe. Feel free to suggest answer formats as well.

However, there are a few topics that we won't allow (list subject to change):
- Anything that pertains to a specific user (this user should be promoted, this one should be banned, etc.)
- Whether or not we should have a forum games forum

Please do note that just because the community feels one way or another on a certain issue DOES NOT mean the staff will automatically decide the same way. This is more to just gauge the community's opinion on certain subjects.

So, to start, I'll just keep an eye on this thread and everyone can come up with ideas. If you guys all agree on one topic and/or there's alarming support for one, I'll make the first poll.

#smbx gets spammed almost every day.

What about "Should we change the admin ranks to something not related to Final Fantasy?" I love the ranks themselves, but tbh it makes no sense on a Mario forum to have characters from other games as ranks.

That would be like changing the bit rank since it's originally from Zelda. Also the only mario thing here is smbx by itself. There are non-mario discussions also.

It should be someone who is in the channel when most likely all the ops are gone. In Germany thats mostly from 0:00-13:00. Also the one should be plenty active as well.

I second another IRC operator, but it'll be hard finding who would be good at that job.

No, because the Bit rank, despite being from Zelda, is in SMBX and the Final Fantasy characters are not.
It's a SMBX forum, it should have SMBX ranks.

You said it makes no sense having other ones from games in a mario forum. Also we already have smbx ranks. I don't see a problem the staff has ff ones.

Yeah. We've discussed the IRC issue a lot before but this was the main problem we faced. I'm open to more operators for sure if it means the channel will be kept safer, but then we run into the other issue of what type of spam is actually happening. If it's michel-level spam, then we need to leave it to Xanos. If it's normal users acting dumb, then they need to be reported.

I uhh..third the IRC operator, since there have been alot of pointless posts and it might ruin the community, but just as 8bitmushroom said, it might be hard to find somebody to do it.

The only operators that seem active whenever I'm on is Layla, GhostHawk, and sometimes, but not all the time, you yourself. Pseudo is a new addition but he doesn't go on IRC much anyway so that might not be much as is, I guess time will tell. Xanos, while helpful, can't deal with the mass amount of spam bots we had earlier, so if there are extra hands to ban the bots to shut them up rather than leaving it all to Xanos, that might be better, because some of those bots got 10 to 12 lines in before they were actually killed.

I'd also like to make the suggestion of demoting Kley. He's been inactive for quite some time and seeing as Pseudo-Dino was recently hired, he could act as a replacement for Kley, because chances are he's too busy with real life to actually moderate these forums, not like he's done much in the past anyhow. Just a suggestion though, I would highly recommend taking it into consideration.

All in all, what I think you need is a dedicated IRC taskforce that aren't staff on these forums, because all of the IRC operators are staff on these forums. It's better to have people that are there most of the time to deal with reports instead of having it dealt with when a staff member is actually online.

I've added a somewhat ambiguous question to the poll, and that may get some discussion going and spawn new questions.

I don't agree with this. In my opinion, IRC operators need to be qualified to be staff members on the forums. I'm not opposed specifically to having operators that aren't staff on the forums (I already have that, actually), but they need to be someone I would want to have on the main staff.

Can I ask why, specifically, do you want qualified forum staff members as your IRC taskforce exclusively?

Because if I can't trust them to be able to run the forums, why should I trust them to be able to run the IRC?

The IRC and the Forums are two different entities all together, though. You could trust people to run your forums while trusting other people to run the IRC. And besides, you're acting as if everyone is an outlaw and they can't be trusted to keep an eye on an IRC channel so it doesn't go up in flames.
